This picture wound up on Mrs. Homie’s iPad - I’ll explain how in a minute. Neither of us know anything about it, and a reverse image search on Google failed to provide conclusive results. It appears to have been used in a couple of articles about urban legends (specifically, about a hotel guest sleeping on a bed with a decaying body underneath it), but I have no idea what hotel this is, the date, or anything else.
How Did It Wind Up On Mrs. Homie’s iPad? Last night Mrs. Homie was scrolling through photos on her iPad, and this was there! It was between the last picture she took Sunday night and the first one she took Monday! But she didn’t take that photo (I sure as hell didn’t), and we have no idea how it wound up on her iPad! (I’m not saying it’s ghosts or aliens; undoubtedly just some glitch saw it on the web and saved it, for reasons beyond my comprehension).
What exactly showed up in your files? Is the entire page as we see it your own context from your file displaying the picture, or did the whole page (including most viral photos) show up mysteriously?
Judging by the phone on the wall, I’d put it ca.1950
Was anyone else using the iPad? Did she go to a webpage that opened up that photo? You can always check the webbrowser history. I’ve had it happen before that I’ve accidentally taken a screen shot. My phone and iPad has several of pictures of the home screen. Just one possible thought. If there’s no history of her being to a site between Sunday night and Monday morning when this showed up, then I got nothin’.
I’m not as interested in the how of it all - I understand that shit happens - but the what of it all. Where is this place? Is there any story attached to it? That sort of thing.

Perhaps the picture was texted or iMessaged to her by someone and she didn’t realize it. Photos sent to you can automatically appear in your camera roll as though you took them.
I learned this the hard way, a friend texted my a mildly inappropriate screenshot of a joke and my 18 y/o daughter was scrolling though my camera roll and saw it. Fortunately nothing too bad, so an easy way to learn that lesson.
It’s very easy to inadvertently download things like Facebook photos to your iPad’s camera roll as well. My wife does it all the time on her Facebook without realizing it. We were uploading vacation pictures from her iPad to our laptop last week and in the middle were a bunch of our niece’s new baby. She’d been checking Facebook one morning at the hotel and put them onto her iPad without realizing it.
Yes, if you press and hold on a photo on an iPad or iPhone, then an option pops up to save the photo to your camera roll. if you lean on the screen accidentally then it would be easy to do without knowing.
