Canada and the writers' strike

How does the writers’ strike effect TV programs and movies that are filmed in Canada, but directed at American audiences?

AFAIK If It is an American Production Company for teh US Market they are shut down just the same. If it is a Canadian Company making for Canadian channels no effect.

What if it’s a Canadian company making something for the US market?

I read on one of my mailing lists that it depends on the show. Stargate Atlantis uses writers who belong to the Canadian guild, so they’re okay…Battlestar Galactica uses writers who belong to the American guild so they’re not.

Don’t have a cite for that though, so take it for what its worth.

AFAIK, Little Mosque on the Prairie and Corner Gas (both distributed in the U.S.) use Canadian writers and are doing fine. Fear not.

Little Mosque on the Prairie is airing in the States?! Who’s showing it?

Hang on a sec… huh, that’s odd. It says here that the creators were pitching it to U.S. networks in December 2006, but no news since then. It’s showing up in France, Turkey, Israel, and Switzerland, but… apparently not on U.S. channels. My bad.

Shame! SHAME! I was looking forward to it.

Gotta go - I have seventeen episodes of Corner Gas to watch.
