Canada Family Action Coalition is shocked, SHOCKED over ten-second ad

From the paper today:

“A group opposed to same-sex marriage is calling for a boycott of Famous Players Theatres, saying it is offended by a 10-second ‘still’ slide that is now running in support of extending marriage rights to gays and lesbians.”
Oh, OK. So… it’s fine for you guys to rant and rave about how cartoon caracters are promoting homosexuality. It’s fine for you guys to take out entire full-page ads in the Globe and Mail thanking your supporters for “taking affirmative action for traditional family values”.

But a 10-second clip is shown in movie theatres, and you freak out? Wow, that’s really being open-minded, right there.

The sad thing is, if the boycott works, Famous Players will have to bow under the pressure and stop running the ad entirely.

I listened to one of these bozos on the air today. He kept referring to the ads as anti-marriage ads. I tuned in late so for a moment I thought he was complaining about some sort of ads against SSM. I guess he thinks if he can call it anti marraige more people will join him.

Then he was going on about obscene images bombarding the view… later I hear it is part of the stupid slide show before they get to the real commercials.
hardly a bombardment… heck most peopel are suuch passive viewers these days they won’t bother to read so I guess the message is lost on that crowd.

What a tool.

I think that’s a glad thing, actually, in that these sorts of people aren’t really big movie-goers. “Gee, I’d like to see Hitch, but I’m so appalled at the idea of same-sex marriage that I won’t go.” Nah. Maybe it’ll put a dent in the box office for Pooh’s Heffalump Movie.

Anyway, so far they’re reacting with as much quiet contempt is warranted, and I’d be surprised if they did a 180.

I still haven’t figured out why some people get so offended over this kind of issue.

As long as a child’s well cared for emotionally and physically, and as long as they’re happy, it shouldn’t matter if they’re being raised by pandas, IMHO.

Are you comparing gay people to pandas?

No, she’s just panda-ring to the OP.

Bad.

*starts to say something else, shakes her head, and shoots *Nametag ** with a water pistol.

What if a child was raised by gay pandas? The double-whammy of the assault on traditional values and theultra-high-fiber diet might be too much for the poor thing.

clomps Nametag with a water balloon for doing that to her thread

I was in a movie theatre this weekend that had that ad running. There were a bunch of teenage girls and boys sitting a few rows ahead of us, and one of them pointed to the ad.

“Hey, did you see that?”
“What?”
“That ad.”
“No, what did it say.”
“It said something about gay marriage being the same as any other marriage.”
“Well, DUH!”
“No kidding!”

And Dante had hope for the future.

points and laughs at the dripping-wet Nametag

Dante, your last line reminds me of “Tales of the Sweaty, Feculent Herd” - one of the things that inspired me to join this board.

Glad I’ve got it bookmarked.

The Canada Family Action Coalition would be far more amusing with a panda mascot (still stupid as hell, but more amusing.) It could be Anti-Gay People Panda. “When one male panda tries to marry another male panda, that makes me a SAD PANDA.”

Yeah - I caught it this weekend too.
I believe the husband’s comment was “Huh. That was unexpected”
Then we both went back to shoveling Reese’s Pieces into our faces.

I am sorry, but my traditional values would be offended by this living arrangement.

According to this high-toned site regarding the panda diet, “Bamboo is very low in nutrition. Even though the panda eats this plant, it cannot digest it very well and most of the bamboo passes undigested through the digestive tract.”

I am not passing judgment on panda sexual orientation, but I don’t want to live next door to enormous piles of undigested bamboo.

Hmm… so what’s playing at Famous Players this week?

You all are trainwrecking my perfectly good rant! Stop it right now or I’m turning around this thread and going home!

But if it’s a train, it can’t be turned around, can it? At most you can slow down, stop, and go into reverse, but that usually takes several kilometres…

Perhaps gay pandas are a route to acceptance of SSM. If kids grow up liking openly gay cartoon characters, they might become accepting adults. Disney should get to work on “Pooh Comes Out!”

I always wondered about Pooh and Piglet…

Kythereia, did the article mention exactly who is calling for the boycott? I find myself wondering if this is the work of a U.S.-based group like Focus on the Family. Apparently there are a couple such U.S. groups who aren’t content to stick their noses into American souls and have decided to be busybody pains-in-the-asses north of the border too.
