Canada Post unveils stamp celebrating same-sex marriage rights in country

As part of Canada’s 150 year celebration, Canada Post is issuing 10 stamps to commemorate significant events in the nation’s history.

Same-sex marriage in 2005 is one of the events commemorated. Canada Post released the image of the stamp today: a maple leaf with rainbow colours, and “marriage equality” in both languages.

You can buy a booklet of 8 stamps for $6.80 here. But they won’t be shipped until the stamps are available, about 3 weeks from now (June 1, 2017).

O Canada! I wonder if the USPS will ever commemorate SSM, in addition to the already-issued Harvey Milk stamp.

There’s lots of gay & lesbian people on US stamps, from Horatio Alger to Babe Zaharias. They just weren’t openly labeled as such. Some of them were in what would be considered same-sex marriages, but that was not recognized at that time.
