The supreme court of British Columbia had previously ruled unconstitutional that province’s ban on same-sex marriage and provided the federal government a one year stay to extend same-sex marriage on its own. Since the federal government did not appeal that decision or last month’s decision in Ottowa, and since the feds are planning on passing SSM legislation as soon as possible, the court has vacated the stay. Same-sex couples in BC can now marry.
Congratulations again to Canada! Please, annex us soon!
2 down, 8 (and 3 territories) to go It’s almost like we’re, you know, equal citizens
I don’t think we’re going to be annexing the US anytime soon (though I understand Quebec has dibs on Florida if we do). Just marry a Canadian boy. Or seek asylum
Happily, I have an uncle who lives in Canada. Should the situation in the US get worse, I’m pretty sure I could happen upon him. And and AND, I speak French. Not utterly fluently, but enough.
What’s the grade-school teacher situation like up there? Any areas that pay decently and don’t require you to pay huge to live?
Just thought I’d add that two same sex couples got married here in BC today. A male couple that had been together 17 years, and a female couple that had been together 20 and raised 4 kids.* So much for the ‘Gay Relationships Never Last / Gay People Can’t Raise Kids in a Stable Home’ arguement.
*no, I don’t have a site - I saw it on the news just now.
