The temperature is doing some serious yo-yo-ing this winter. It got up to 30F here yesterday and is currently dropping to -4F tonight, tomorrow is colder yet and then the temp climbs again. The highs and lows go through a huge range ever week. That’s got to be hard on the trees and bushes, not to mention wildlife.
At least some of them admit it:

Piper Dogs, normally hardy and adventurous, ranging the entire backyard, have adopted a “screw that - do you know how cold it is?” attitude. Just go out the door, cock a leg, and come right back in.
