Canada the insignificant fart in a windstorm!

I am the OP of this thread about Canada being an insignificant fart in a windstorm. And I want to thank all the susequent posters who proved my point by turning it into one of the most boring threads that has ever appeared in the SD message boards.

Seriously, folks, I want you to do two things. Tonight, read the following quote from one of the postings in this thread. Quote is in bold:

**The Distribution of Powers is set out in its entirety by Part VI of the Constitution Act, 1867, not just sections 91 and 92:
Section 92A (which was added in 1982 as part of the patriation deal) sets out additionalpowers for the provinces in relation to non-renewable resources;

Sections 93 and 93A define provincial and federal powers with respect to education, including separate and denominational schools;

Section 94 (which has never been implemented) allows the common law provincies to surrender their jurisidiction over property and civil rights and court procedure to the federal Parliament;

Section 94A (enacted in 1951; amended in 1964) gives Parliament jurisdiction to legislate with respect to old age pensions, without interfereing with any provincial law relating to pensions;

Section 95 gives the Parliament and Legislatures concurent jursidiction over agriculture and immigration.
There are also the powers of the federal Parliament to amend certain aspects of the constitution of the federal government, and the provinces’ power to amend certain aspects of their provincial constitutions, found at
sections 44 and 45 of the Constitution Act, 1982.**

Tomorrow night, take a handful of sleeping pills (NOT a fatal dose, just enough to put you out good.

The next day, write and tell me what is more likely you to put you to sleep.

I have nothing against Canada. I am a Canadian myself. But people in countries like Belgium and Botswana and Somethingistan KNOW they are insignificant and admit it and live with it. Canada continues to believe it amounts to an ounce of coon-shit!

That is all I am saying. Happy Canada Day five days late! Like anyone in this stupid country would notice what date it is.

I dunno. You got 118 responses (excluding your own) and the thread lasted four whole days with over 3,800 views. That is a long way from the “most boring” thread in the Pit (and would not even count as boring in MPSIMS).

As to the soporific qualities of lawmaking, heck, even laws prohibiting sexual activities are generally unexciting, in themselves.

You can’t have it both ways. If Canadians are quiet and unassuming (outside hockey rinks) then it is not valid to criticize yourself for being quiet and unassuming. If Canadians have an overinflated view of themselves, you cannot successfully make the charge stick by citing their bland natures.

Sit back, pop the top on a Moosehead (or whichever skunk beer you prefer), plop a tape of the McKenzie Brothers into the VHS, and chill out, eh.

Were you by any chance at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier last Saturday?

Do you have any cites to back up that claim?

At least you don’t get confused with Austria. :slight_smile:

:smiley:

To help non-Canucks appreciate The Flying Dutchman’s reference.

Hey, that was all Muffin. Don’t go blaming all of us for that!

Wow, really?

Man, I’d hate to know what you’d say about countries you DO have something against.

I think people in Ottawa noticed it was Canada Day. What with the crowds and the street closings and the loud exploding things after dark and, most importantly, the reduced bus schedules and lack of parking.

I guess what I mean to say is… I think my adoptive country is pretty damn awesome, and I won’t stand to hear such things said about it without getting slightly annoyed!

Dude, it’s your thread. It’s boring 'cause, you know, you’re boring.

I like Canada. It’s cute.

The problem I have with the country being called cute is that to me it implies smallness… a physical smallness. But we are a large country.

[Channelling SCTV]If you fit great lone star state texas on vast cosmos that is Soviet Union (oop I mean Canada) it would be a insignificant star HA HAH AHA HA![/channeling SCTV]

Please pardon the quick detour.

You may now return to Canada, eh.

I think part of the trouble might be that the major checkpoints of Canadian history seem to involve THE RATIFICATION OF ANOTHER MAJOR PIECE OF LEGISLATION!!* WOO HOO!!

I know, I know, we just had July 4th with the signing of a piece of legislation, but at least it had stirring words and merciless Indian savages.

  • and oh yeah, occasionally beating the French.

Um, my aunt lived there. I was born in Potsdam. My dad was getting his Ph. D. at SUNY there.

Eeek. This is creeping me out.

Inky

shuddering uncontrollably

And I, a citizen of the USA, knew it was Canada Day, and knew the country’s seat was Ottawa. Used to go and have lunch at the spinning Hilton and watch the changing of the guard on Sundays as a special treat. Spent Summers in the Gatineau Mts in Quebec (during cede time) on the Ottawa River. Quite fond of Canada myself.

Only thing that comes to mind when my family and I talk about Toronto is “leather pants”. So many people there wore leather pants. Not sure if this is a continuing phenomena, but in the winter, it was fur and leather…
Inky

That’s how we’re programmed. It’s taken me quite awhile (four years living in the US) to think any other way in the face of opposition, even a little bit.

Heck, we even gave the Americans gunpowder when we were at war with them in 1812 so they could have fireworks on their independance day. http://www.town.ststephen.nb.ca/visitor/history.html
