I think an interesting poll would be one that tallied how many people who voted for the (Federal) NDP would be absolutely horrified if the actually won a majority. (In the interests of full disclosure, I did, and I would be.)
As bad as the two party system the US uses looks, the way some of us wind up using strategic voting to try to tweak the policy at the top based on what their quantitative analysts will tell the Liberals and Tories about overall voting patterns in not really contested but demographically important areas seems far more complicated than it needs to be.

I held my nose somewhat and voted Liberal, but mainly because the candidate in this riding is an excellent MP and all-round good guy (despite having started his career in the Refoooooorm Party). The vote was very close, and required a recount.
