Canada's Thanksgiving begins the holiday season in the MMP!

Enjoy your turkey and stuff!! With just a bit over a month to go, I’m having to think about the fourth Thursday in November, since we’ve decided to stay home. FCD has invited Daughter’s best friend and her husband (she was our house sitter this summer) so instead of turkey sammiches for 2, I’m planning a grazing buffet for 8. I like that idea over a big sit-down dinner.

But closer to today, no real plans as yet. I’ll walk our fenceline again to be sure there are no other escape routes for the intrepid chicken-killer. Unless it rains. Beyond that, who knows??

Happy Moanday and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!! :canada: :turkey:

First! It’s good to be juvenile!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 54 Amurrkin out (BRR!) and clear with a predicted high of 82 and sunny. No big plans for the day which does not bother my RDOS self at all. Sup will be salmon patties, English peas, smashes N.O.T. and bizkits due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’.

Happy Turkey Day Canadian Mumpers! Eat lots of turkey. MOOOOOOM a grazin’ buffet sounds like a good idea. I am sure Otis and Trevor will approve cause that sounds like a great way to get lots of turkey treats.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

My brother and SIL in Raleigh, who understand what a pain it is traveling on a holiday weekend, are hosting “Thanksgiving” dinner two weeks before Thanksgiving. Looking forward to seeing the whole clan - brothers, nieces, grand-nieces and grand-nephews - all together again. Been a while.

This morning, I had to get up stupid early for my flight(s) to Dayton, OH for a job. I got to the airport my usual two hours in advance, and am now waiting for breakfast at a diner-type place in the terminal. I figured, what better time to check in with my MMP pals?

Hope everyone is well. I assure you that you missed very little in my absence.

It’s rainy here. Ms Peach does not like the rain, so getting her to do the morning necessaries was a PITA. Now, off to the museum.

Stay safe, y’all.

Good morning to thankful Canadians, ships at sea, and everybody else! It’s starting to get light outside, and I have my light therapy device plugged in next to me.

Wheelie, wonders of modern science! Using wi-fi in an airport diner to check in with an internet message board on a portable computer. Just a few decades ago, all of that would have looked like weird science fiction.

Off to last day of training. Work weds and fri.
Hopefully check next week.
Hoping I get an invite for Thanksgiving. I haz no relatives.

I let Otis out and watched him head straight to where the fence had been open. I don’t think he was very happy. Poor baby… :stuck_out_tongue:

I also walked between the repairs and saw no damage. There were a couple of small branches that had come down, but not big enough to cause an escape route. And I realigned the hinge on the small side gate and added a bungee so he can’t push out there. I’m pretty sure the yard is now secure. Unless he figures out how to climb the fence like Pixel did.

FCD is at the marina - with luck, the generator will go in today, as will the new fuel fill fittings. Slowly but surely…

I think I’ve earned some reading time.

Good morning.

It’s 43°F, dark, and mostly cloudy right now. For the afternoon, we’ll have mostly sunny skies and a daytime high of 60°F. If I were smart, I’d bust out the mower later today.

Hopefully, Otis isn’t a digger. Polar and Brandi would dig huge holes under the fence and wriggle out that way. It’s why we ended up having to get a large outdoor dog run/kennel. In later years, they stayed put.

FCM, I hope all goes well at the marina today.

I have not even begun to think about Thanksgiving. Given the fact that my oven was broken last year, I’ll probably have to cave and roast a turkey this year. I’m not a fan of turkey. I’m sure it’ll only be me, my husband, and my son again.

I baked cookies yesterday, and besides cleaning the kitching and rollsucking, didn’t do much else. I should probably mow…

Remember the idjit who was posting poor jokes regarding the current shutdown and impact on federal employees and retirees in my old employee Messenger group? He flounced during the wee hours of this morning. Someone called out that type of behavior in a very classy way, but he knew it was directed at him. He left the group in the wee hours of the morning—no big loss.

It’s time for another cup of coffee and maybe some ibuprofen for my arm. Please take care of yourselves.

Good Moanday morning all. Slept in until 7:30am (with two bladder breaks) and will head out shortly to do some tennis shoe shopping before the usual Jersey Mikes sammich. Nothing much else on the agenda, it’s 62F heading to near 80 later today and should stay the same until the rains return on Saturday night, according to the weather wizards. Need to dig out my car title, since once my ‘new’ car arrives I plan to sell this one to CarMax and that’s the major thing they need. Other than those things it should be a day of sloth and some gym time to fill the day.

A Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it.

FCM, Otis is no dummy, but has to learn you folks aren’t either. And a buffet style is probably for the best with that many people.

Never recall hearing of those, but they look pretty neat, may have to do some shopping of my own.

Wheelie, glad to hear that the traveling life isn’t wearing you down. Check in anytime.

True that. I vividly remember going into the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum many years ago, with the Wright Flyer suspended above the Apollo 11 capsule–and realizing only 63 years, well within one lifetime, had passed from one to the other.

Taters, no great loss from the idjit flouncing out (and BTW, flouncing is such a great word, IMHO, should be used more).

And that concluded the morning report. More as life continues on. Take care all.

Welcome back!

Y’all are making me appreciate having to walk Nelson on a leash more and more.

Try your fire safe?

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After that, I’ll strip the bed to wash the sheets and practice RDOSing.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

That’s sad.
You are cordially invited to come to us for Thanksgiving.

:canada: Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! :canada:

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “True fucking story. Mammatus clouds fucking look like boobs.” So now you know.

Safe travels, I hope the job is fun for you! Good to see you back too.

Did you have the right shoes on today? I hope this means that Otis is now secure and the fenceline is Otis-proof

Taters hope the arm is better soon, and your idjit does not sound like any loss at all.

Normality has returned after our eventful weekend in Wales. I was up at my usual time today, dropped ‘im indoors at the station and came back to a day of irksome irk. One of my colleagues called in sick so I did a few bits for her including attending a meeting this afternoon when the person in charge clearly did not have a clue what they were on about. I also did the grocery shopping and I’m squeezing in one last cup of tea before I head out to my appointment with the dental hygienist, where I will no doubt be lectured over my love of tea.

Morning all. Thanks for the best wishes. I will gratefully accept them all on behalf of all Canuck dopers!

:maple_leaf::maple_leaf::maple_leaf::maple_leaf:

Had our first snowfall yesterday. Was a rainy day and turned to snow mid-afternoon.

:snowflake::snowflake::snowflake:

[Looks out window]

Still on the ground this morning but I expect it will gradually melt.

Weather app says +8 C, feels like -1 C due to wind.

Day off today, then two days of work, then off Thursday to go to university reunion halfway across the country.

Somehow I didn’t notice this was a big reunion year, so only started making inquiries last week. Managed to worm my way into almost everything. Didn’t manage to grab a ticket for the football game, but may be able to make it work. Alumni office is of course very attentive to potential donors showing up, even on short notice.

So it started out light, and I guess it was. Except I spent most of the sort either loading(since Nails was late or manifesting slackness or something), or on the sort table. So there was a bit of work to plow through. I also had to make a vain attempt to fix the one 100 Bottom Red car that the loader(s) had screwed up after I got moved on Saturday. I did my Aldi run($36), got gas(only 29.9mph this week, I was lead footing it), and played ice cube hockey with Spot. Now it’s off to nap till cocktail hour.

:canada:HAPPY METRIC THANKSGIVING, EH?:canada:
Happy Indigenous People’s Day!
Also:

I’m happy life has been more mundane than exciting for you.

< hopes for both >

I’m sure Col. Sanders will get over it.

Bye, Felecia!

You, too.

< casts warding off spell >

Afternoon All! Tis a bit after noon as I join this week’s fray.

Slept 10h last night and needed it. Up promptly at 7, sheveled, off to eye doc to pick up a 6-month supply of contact lenses, ate, then dropped the car at the body shop to fix someone else’s parking lot oopsie on my nickel. It should be done by Fri if not earlier and won’t be all that expensive. More than my deductible, but not by enough to make filing a claim worthwhile.

Ubered home and for the next few days I’ll be limited to foot, bike, local “free uber”, and real Uber if I really need to go farther. This week should be superb weather for walking & biking, unlike the previous two where the shelter of a car was pretty much essential every time I went anywhere. Living in a largely walkable area is real handy.

Might zip off to the beach for awhile after I’m done w y’all.

Congrats to @Misnomer for a successful audition outcome, even if you didn’t / don’t get the role. Sometimes the real value that comes out of that process is learning for sure what you really think / feel about it. Sounds like you got that part nailed.

Here’s another well-wish for our northern neighbors to have a great holiday today. Hooray for civilized people living in civilized countries. Now that’s something to be thankful about.

Welcome back @Wheelz!

Cheers all on this mid-October week of weather transitions!

Ya’ll might remember I’m a US citizen living in Alberta.

Well, I’m currently working remotely for a US company. I normally take today off for Canadian Thanksgiving to spend the day with my wife (since she usually has today off), but she recently got laid off, so she’s always home.

I’ll just do American Thanksgiving this year. Not that we do much, of course, since it’s just the two of us.

Monday the 13th…scary. I’m home today, and my medical appointment got moved to tomorrow. Lager is happy with more snuggle time. I’m cat sitting a very snuggly boy who loves fuss. We had a nice visit this morning. Good thing my furfaces are not the jealous type.

the nor’east’r was not as bad as forecast. Certainly chilly. Got my black cat plushy slippers on.

No Thanksgiving celebrated in Australia and this expat misses the food.

They do do up Easter over the top ….and dismissed the easter rabbit for Easter Bilby

and turkey is just not eaten here, nor root beer, nor butter tarts nor…. .:frowning:

So far, the only digging he’s done is in the middle of the yard over the mole tunnels. Here’s hoping…

And FCD cleared all his tools and stuff off the boat - well, except the tools that belong there. So all is clear for the yard workers. Now, we wait…

I’ve done sit-down for 10, but FCD commented about how my brother does Christmas (food piled on the island for grazing all day) And we decided that’s how we’ll do it. The timing will be interesting. I’m going to smoke one turkey and the ribs, and I’ll roast another turkey. Most of the birds will wind up in our freezer - we can have turkey year-round. I just need to work out sides.

In theory…

Off to the marina!

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! :canada:

Mostly normal Monday, went to work at the normal time, went to the company canteen for lunch and came home at the normal time. Decided to take the longer way home, so I got a little bit of a walk. Need to find a stamp so I can put a card in the mail tomorrow morning. Should have done it today, but I is lazy.
