Just got an email from our esteemed Senator, Steve Daines (R–shithead): "Daines Stands with MT Truckers Fighting for Freedom: overreaching COVID-19 mandates imposed by President Biden’s administration are wreaking havoc on our entire country.
They’re hurting Montana small businesses, burdening the labor force and worsening the supply chain crisis."
WHAT mandates, Steve? As far as I can tell the only one left is masks on planes, although the state Supremes just overturned a ban on medical facilities requiring employees to be vaccinated. Too bad, so sad. Montana is literally at the bottom of the list for any Covid preventions, asshole.
Here in Ottawa, we’re largely down to seeing “convoys of one”, as some lonely guy drives around with some flags on his truck.
And, as was always planned, COVID restrictions are being lifted. Vaccine checks and capacity limits for restaurants have largely ended (St. Patrick’s Day at my local pub was close to capacity), the mask mandate in Ontario ends Monday, the Federal government just announced that as of April 1st, pre-arrival COVID tests will no longer be needed for people travelling to Canada.
So all that pissing and moaning last month was for nothing - if they’d just waited a month, they’d have had just about everything they claimed they wanted.
An article in the Star claims Canadians who do not believe in vaccinations are twelve times more likely to support Putin and oppose supporting Ukraine. This surprised me, since I thought Euphonious was exaggerating somewhat.
Another article states many of these contrarians embrace any theory that opposes “the narrative”, seen as whatever mainstream media recommends. As to how true this is, I could not say.

Considering how much of the anti-vax, anti-mask, anti-Trudeau, anti-Biden crap these guy support has been driven by covert Russian propaganda, it really shouldn’t be a surprise that they’re on Putin’s side now. “Hey, this guy was telling the truth about COVID vaccines making people’s faces explode, they must be telling the truth about the Russians being welcomed as liberators!”

Just since it may not have been mentioned, Ontario has new regulations permitting police to remove licenses and plates from those blocking a border, in addition to investing in tow trucks. Reasonable enough, but the damage is done since Americans need few new excuses to favour domestic manufacturing.
Although a review is required at 60 days, the Opposition will seek to make much from this. Talking heads have said traffic and trade at the borders were “affected”, but were diverted to other places. That is not the point. The US does not need further reasons to become more isolationist. Economic reputations matter.
I could not say of all the legal niceties were in place for the use of the Act. But trade and peace had to be restored. This was true for Aboriginal protests blocking railway lines, and it is true for convoys of truckers as well. Make your point, than go away.

The city is planning to ban protest vehicles from a big part of downtown around Parliament, and pinky swears that they’ll actually write tickets for noise, traffic and public nuisance violations this time.

So, update on the Borkers Convoy: One idiot was already arrested for violating the conditions of his release after being arrested during the Truckers Convoy. He was apparently supposed to stay the fuck out of Ottawa, but just couldn’t quite manage that.
