Here’s a fun video of Ezra Levant trashing one of these commissions:
This doesn’t meet the challenge presented:
"… an example or two of liberal or non-evangelical “hate speech”… "
A radical Islamist is not liberal.
No, but on the far left there appears to be far more tolerane for Muslim intolerance as there is for Christian intolerance.
Sam, there is an important difference between a radical Islamist and a Muslim. I find no reason not to speak out against the misdeeds of anyone. But it is Christian intolerance that affects my life more. I will tolerate their freedom of speech and they are certainly going to have to put up with mine.
I’m not talking about radical Islamists. I’m talking about the type of intolerance practiced generally in many Muslim cultures. Intolerance against women, intolerance against Jews, intolerance against homosexuals. The left seems rather indifferent to this, and it’s not just a matter of whether it affects you at home, either. Apartheid in South Africa didn’t affect you at home either, but it was certainly a major cause of the left for a long time. I find it strange that there is no similar outrage against Muslim intolerance.
Sam: There is no such thing as “the left”. And must we all look at every injustice in the world and level our outrage against them all equally? Mistreatment of people in other countries should be a source of “outrage” by any person in the West, whether on the left of the right (in as much as “outrage” is to be a measure of political responsibility).
I agree with Sam Stone, although I would take out the words “far left”.
Hate speech is hateful, but unless there is a real and concrete threat, it should not be prosecuted. I remember the publicity surrounding Ernst Zundel and always believed that prosecuting him was a dreadful mistake, simply giving the man a platform for spouting his ridiculous beliefs, a platform he otherwise would never have.
vison, Remember that, for Sam, it often seems he categorizes *anyone *to his left (i.e. the great majority) as “far” left, or sometimes “extreme” or “ultra”. Furthermore, all of that great mass of humanity constitutes a single ideological monolith. It’s pretty much the same thing as using “Muslim” and “radical” as synonymous, or (another of his favorites) “Democrat” and “liberal”. You learn to recognize and discount that brand of silliness very quickly here.
Sam, as for what “*appears *to be far more” etc. from what you call “the left”, perhaps you can favor us with an example or two of what has “appeared” to you? Hmm?
I seem to recall several Athiests saying that religious people are of inferior intelligence to them, and should have their children taken away.
Maybe that is what Sam means?
