I’ve had decent teeth all my life. I think here in Montreal/suburban Montreal, we’ve had fluoride in the water all my life (I’m 30 years old and have always lived here.)
I was a kid in Calgary, though I’m originally from Toronto.
My mother was desperate to get back to Toronto, partly because of water flouridation. As a kid in unfluoridated Calgary, I had many cavities, and they were filled by our dentist. (Ouch!) My younger sister (born in Alberta, brought to Ontario as a baby) had next to none, thanks to Toronto’s decision to put flouride in the water.
When we finally moved back to Toronto, Ontario, my mother breathed a sigh of relief. But she still had to deal with the damage done by Calgary’s unflouridated water, to my teeth, my Dad’s teeth, and to her teeth.
Flouridation is a good thing.
20ºC in my shady carport this afternoon. I’m not complaining, but that just ain’t right, on January 26th.
Man. It was minus 23 here this morning.
I’ve had quite enough of this winter.
ETA: I’ve had homemade turkey soup in the garage since Christmas. No fear of it thawing.
I didn’t buy the frozen fruit juice I needed on my grocery shopping trip today, because it would have melted by the time I walked home!
I’m waiting for the storm to start tomorrow. Expecting 30-40 cm of snow with winds gusting up to 90 kph. At least we are just getting the tail end after it spends itself in the States.
Where are you in Atlantic Canada Cyros?
A very Canadian news story - A beaver blocked traffic in West Vancouver.
It’s cold as hell here in Montreal. And yes, when you live in Montreal, you believe that Hell is cold.
I hope you Atlantic Canada people will stay safe if/when you get the storm.
I agree that it ain’t right, but I’m not going to complain!
Kids stuff compared to 2004’s “White Juan”… now THAT was a friggin’ nor’easter. Power’s out for 2 weeks and I had to climb out my damn bedroom windows 'cus my front door was snowed in (but hey no school).

I remember that one. My job sent out 4x4s to pick up employees for work. I had to Wade through a football field’ s length of waist deep snow to get to the truck. The next week I picked up a pair of cheap snowshoes for the next time.
The one that sticks in my head was a huge storm in '92 (I think). In 24 hours it dropped enough snow to bury cars in the parking lot. We spent the next few days jumping out of the third floor into the snowbanks. Good times if you don’t have to shovel.
I’m too young to remember that one, but '92 was the storm year all my family wouldn’t stop talking about (til White Juan hit). And while snowbank jumping sounds crazy-fun, snow shoveling’s more like archaeology digging at that point.
I was in university at Mount A and living off campus in an apartment with 2 other guys so the shoveling was handled by the landlord at one end and the university at the other. We only had to deal with the stuff right around the car. Three hulking lads (well, two hulking and one scrawny me) made quick work of that bit of snow.
It was back in the days where the video stores rented the VCRs along with the movies. We girded up with all of our snow gear and walked across town to the video store and got a VCR and 10 movies. Being university students we were already well stocked on beer and liquor. A great time was had by all!
Wonder of wonders, they actually let my department close early due to the storm. We went from a bit of wind at 7am to full blown blizzard at 10 am. The roads were starting to get covered in drifts and the visibility was zero in a lot of places. Came home to about 3 inches of snow in the driveway already. If I’d waited another hour I’d probably have had to shovel to get my car off the street.
Snuggled in with the family. I think I’ll try to convince my daughter to watch The Librarians with me. Should have bought more chips yesterday.

We’re getting snow this morning in Alberia so I guess our mid-winter summer is over. Crap.
Environment Canada tells us that we can expect double-digit below-zero temps and snow as the week progresses. Oh well; the warm spell was nice while it lasted.
What is this thing called “warm spell?”
You know, a warm spell - when the wind picks up a little (like to blow your hair off your damned head) and the temperature rises 20 degrees in 20 minutes.
I can do extreme cold; I wouldn’t know how to handle multiple feet of snow. Crazy.
