Cancelled: My Own Worst Enemy, Lipstick Jungle - And Perhaps Prison Break Too

Thank you! I couldn’t agree more. I loved the first season of Pushing Daisies, but it’s been losing me fast this season. There is still a lot to like–the throw-away lines in this show are funnier than most of the main gags in other shows, and the cartoony ghoulishness of the morgue scenes are entertaining.

But the whole Ned/Chuck relationship drama is so tiring and Ned just comes across like a fourteen year-old girl the way he mopes and obsesses over the tiniest things.

It seems like the show is targeting 14 to 17-year-old high school drama geeks. That’s not going to attract advertisers.

On a related note, I’ve heard a rumour that Reaper might not be coming back for its second season next January after all. Have you - or anyone else - got any news on that?

Noooo!

**Reaper: ** There were casting-calls and sides coming across desks as of November 6, 2008. As far as I know, it’s still alive.

I just don’t get that; I thought he did great. It was clear to me when he was Henry, when he was Edward, and when he was one pretending to be the other. Fine, subtle differences. (The show as a whole makes absolutely no sense, of course.)

:frowning:

I lurv Dirty, Sexy Money. Donald Sutherland rawks. That whole quirky family is an absolute hoot! I will miss them if/when they’re no longer entertaining me.

And I only recently discovered Without a Trace in reruns on cable, but I’ve gotten kind of hooked. At least it’ll probably stay in circulation for a while, so I’ll still be able to see it from time to time.

But man, I’m really bummed about Dirty, Sexy Money.

Sorry for the late, late answer, but a television drama that I’m not ashamed to admit I like just occurred to me: Mad Men. That’s what’s not crap.

Yeah, as of today it’s still filming in BC. The new season starts after new years which for the CW means sometime at the end of January. I think 13 episodes were ordered…

One of the only shows I watch that is not faced with cancellation. It is a well written and well acted show. Not network fare, that is for sure.

My network shows are down to three. Chuck which was at its best tonight, Pushing Daisies which is almost surely doomed and Reaper which I am happy is at least getting to return. I gave up on My Name is Earl for some reason at the start of this season.

My TV viewing is mainly Yankees, NY Giants, TDS and the 3 light hearted dramas list above.

Yep. It’s not as fun as last year, but I love the show. It’s like cheese puffs for the brain.

Nooo! it’s a vicious cycle. even if a show looks interesting, why would i invest myself on a show that might be cancelled without a true resolution or even worst, mid-season? perhaps reality shows are so popular because at least they don’t serve people cold turkeys?

I watch Lipstick Jungle - but this season doesn’t seem as interesting as last years. It had all this intrigue and and suspense to it, but this season it just seems like a yawn fest. I read the book in between seasons and really couldn’t figure out how it made to a TV show anyways. I figured once it moved to Friday night the show was going to die, and I’m not too upset.

I watched Wonderfalls and Freaks & Geeks on DVD based on their mention here, and knowing full well they were canceled. It actually helped, knowing going in, they may not have a satisfying conclusion. It’s kind of like ripping the band-aid off before it gets a chance to hurt.

Have you watched 24? The first 3 minutes of each show are “previously on 24” just so the people who didn’t watch earlier will know what’s going on.

Lost was nearly shitcanned because it got so fricking complicated.

And seriously, American Idol and Survivor? The only people who need to watch week-to-week are obsessives. Everyone else tunes in to hear people sing or people bitch – what came before is irrelevant.

What does that have to do with whether or not people like serialized shows? And it’s not like these kinds of shows are new. Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon Crest, 90210 and Melrose Place were all big hits in the 80s and 90s.

Cite that Lost, one of the highest rated shows on television, was ever in danger of cancellation.

Ditto. “Life” is one of the few shows Hallboy is allowed to stay up later (past his bedtime) and watch with me.

That show is responsible for the latest catch phrase in my household. “Did you feel that?”

This is the current cycle of shows* that I follow weekly. Glad to see that just a few are in danger of being cancelled this season.

30 Rock
Amazing Race
Chase
Criminal Minds
Desperate Housewives
Dirty Sexy Money
Entourage
Friday Night Lights

Survivor
Top Chef

(* - other serial programs I watch in batches every few months or so)

Jeez, why are TV networks always messin’ with the line-ups? Life was great when, on Thursdays, we had:

  1. The Cosby Show
  2. Family Ties
  3. Cheers
  4. Night Court

I submit that if this never changed, watching TV wouldn’t be so damn stressful. I’m actually apprehensive to get into anything (read: not watch it) due to fears that the show will be canceled abruptly.
