Yeah, that’s the easy part. I bought some, and I tried it, and there was something very familiar about the taste. Kind of oddly spicy, but I couldn’t quite place it. I tried another piece, and it still wasn’t coming to me. So I fished out my German-English dictionary and looked it up.
Ginger.
It’s strange how you can not recognize something when it comes at you in a different context, and damn was this different. Still, if that’s the worst thing you ever eat by accident in a foreign country, you’re doing okay. Speaking of which, if you’re in Germany, you might want to skip the pepperoni pizza as well.
