I’ve been buying Pillsbury Grands for most of my life. Eight to a roll. Kids are gone now and my wife and I eat a few, put them in an old bread wrapper, eat a few next morning, and toss the rest.
I’ve thought about the frozen ones. Can they easily be separated? Three for breakfast is all we need. Do they require thawing before baking?
How about taste? About the same?
Worse? Better?
Frozen biscuits are way better, but buy a name brand. The cheap ones are little tiny things. You don’t have to separate them or thaw them.
Frozen biscuits are phenomenally better. Nothing even approaching the same. And, as TheChileanBob says, you can cook as many as you want. I cook two at a time. I like Mary B’s and Kelleys buttermilk biscuits (they have different flavors, too). Kelley’s is a regional brand, though, I think. Preheat oven, grease the pan, pull bag out of freezer, pull biscuits out of bag, put on pan touching each other, put in oven. Very easy.
Edit: Oh, but Mary B’s doesn’t come in a resealable bag, so I put the bag inside a gallon-size baggie after opening.
I’m glad you say frozen is better.
I’ll see what my local Kroger offers. I think Pillsbury Grands frozen are an option, but I’ll look for other major brands too.
We had discussed trying Bisquick. But it’s not practical when we only want 3 biscuits.
I just wanted to chime in with the previous posts. In my opinion frozen biscuits are much closer to scratch-made than any refrigerated biscuits, and they’re also better than Bisquick. Not to mention extremely convenient.
I like Mary B’s Buttermilk biscuits. Bring them right home and put them in freezer or else they will stick together.
I’ll look for Mary B’s. They sound tasty.
Look at the dates closely. Mary B’s was involved in a multi-state recall over Listeria earlier this year.
One thing I really love.
Poached eggs with the yolk a little soft on top of 2 sliced open biscuits.
Toast works too. Biscuits are much, much better.
Ok, I’ll wait a couple months on Mary B’s. Give them time to correct the listeria problem.
I’ll start with P Grands.
