kingrd27’s thread Unlimited long distance on home phone! has been moved but not locked. When I click on it, I get “You do not have permission to access this page.” I’m logged in and can get to other threads. I’m baffled. So I figure I’ll try to get to it by doing a search for him/her over the last day, then clicking on the thread when it pops up as a result… at least I’ll be able to see where it’s been moved to. But, not a thing comes up for that user name as far back as a week ago.
It would seem likely that the thread in question has been moved to the valley of lost threads (in other words, it was deemed inappropriate by the mods and was moved out of sight, which IIRC is the preferred method - deleting a thread places more strain on the server).
There was another thread like this today (actually it was four very similar crossposted threads) - some schmuck was earning credits for clicks on some link, but in the threads he asserted (among other things) that the linked page was his own website. The thread quickly disappeared, but I was surprised to see that it left behind a MOVED> listing in the thread index - I’ve not seen this before in the case of threads that go to the land where threads are eternally punished.
It was spam, the thread was moved from the public eye. Since kingrd27’s post count is forever stuck at 1 (invisible) thread, you can’t see any of his other contributions to the boards, because there are none.
Is it just that I’ve never noticed the MOVED> entry before in cases like this Coldfire, or is it optional? (I could have sworn that such threads usually just vanish completely).
Yeah, it’s optional. If we move a thread from MPSIMS to Cafe Society, we’ll make sure the “Moved” entry is visible in MPSIMS. If we move it away from the public eye, we forgo the “Moved” entry, and not a trace remains.
It’s choosing an option on a drop-down box, just like the “Forum Jump” one all posters can use. Pretty straightforward stuff, once you’re used to it.
Ah. Thanks, guys. Coldfire, you can close this out if you want.
Allllllrighty then.
