A recent thread by ncmathsadist (I can’t link because the thread is gone) in IMHO was titled - I am paraphrasing here - “Is there such a thing as feminine straight guys or is my new boy gay?”
The thread now shows as “moved” but clicking on it gets me one of those “you do not have permission to access this page” messages. (In any case, unless the thread deteriorated into a pitting, IMHO would be the correct forum so moving it seems like an odd action.)
The status of the OP is “suspended.”
Right, I get that the OP is probably under investigation as a sock or troll or something. But … I thought posts are virtually NEVER disappeared unless they are spam. I’m sure there are a few other cases such as extreme hate speech or obscenity, or revealing someone else’s real life identity without their permission. But the OP’s thread was pretty tame.
Also, if the thread were disappeared, I’d expect it to go away entirely, not be marked as “moved.”
So what’s going on?
10 to 1 it was moved to the mod thread storehouse. The software puts a moved notification regardless of where it was moved to. You don’t have access to see that forum so you get the error message. The mod who moves it comes back and deletes the moved notification and boom, it’s like the thread never existed.
You saw nothing and even if you did, who would believe you?
The redirect shouldn’t have been there. When we wish threads away to the cornfield, the software does by default leave a redirect in place for the thread, and sometimes we goof and forget to turn off the redirect as we are moving the thread. Oops. No biggie.
I removed the redirect.
As for why the thread was moved in the first place, I have no idea. I will say however that we do often delete posts from trolls and socks. It’s not just spammers.
We generally prefer that you contact us privately for stuff like this. We don’t want to give trolls and socks any extra attention. So, if you really want to know what happened here, send me a PM. In the meantime, I will contact the moderator who actually disappeared the thread so that I can actually answer you if you do send me a PM requesting to know what happened.
I am also going to close this (again, we don’t want to give socks/trolls additional attention). If you want to discuss thread closings and disappearings in general, feel free to open a new thread. And again, if you want specifics on what happened to the specific thread being discussed here, send me a PM.
Thread closed.
