We’ve all seen it in the forum page; the word “Moved” to let the reader know that clicking on the thread will take one to a different forum. I presume that board software enables the display of this bit of metadata.
Is there a feature that can alert one that the current home of a thread is not where the thread orignated?
It’s called a redirect link, and we actually have control over those, as mods. We can choose to leave one or not or even, if choosing to leave one, select the time limit it will stay showing. The default of this is “leave one” and “forever”, so that’s the one I presume most of the mods will select.
Myself, though, I will typically choose to leave one but have it expire in a week or two, because by that time, I think most people will know the thread is moved by then. : p
In the case of moving a thread out of public view, though, I will remember to click “never leave one”. But like I said, since the default is “leave one”, it’s easy to have ones left, sometimes, even when a thread is moved to the mod forum. Luckily, another power over those redirects that mods have is to remove any at any time, instantly, with a “remove all redirects for this topic” button.
As for you’re asking about, though, as far as I know, no…there is no such notification we can send beyond a manual “Hey, we’ve moved this thread” PM.
I think the question was about putting a “moved from” adder to the thread title in the destination forum, the way there is a moved to indication in the source forum.
Sometimes threads with two pages pop up, and I have to double check to see if I didn’t miss it for some reason. Such threads are either moved or got bumped, it might be nice to know right away that the thread is actually recent.
