Can't adjust time display

Ever since DST ended on Nov 1 the times showing here have been off by an hour. I finally got tired of it and went to my User CP to find out why and my time zone (Eastern, US & Canada) is correct and the DST option is set to automatically detect DST settings. The thread post times should be showing the correct time, I think, but they show an hour ahead.

I tried changing the DST correction option to always off but when I try to save changes I get this message: “You did not enter the correct format for the Type the word s t r a i g h t without the spaces. field. Please read the field description for the expected format.” Actually I get this if I try to change any setting. What’s up with that?

Is it because I’m not a paying subscriber anymore but a guest? Thanks in advance.

That’s a security thing (helps to prevent robots from signing up and modifying things), and I can see from your profile that the field in question is blank. It shouldn’t matter if you are a guest. As long as you are logged in it should work.

Is there a box anywhere on the page to answer the security question?

Do you have a script blocker running? You may need to enable straightdope.com in it at least temporarily just to get past this. I can’t remember if it’s a popup you need to answer. If so, a script blocker will probably stop it from popping up.

I didn’t see a security question, but I did have a script blocker running (YesScript) and I disabled it to see it it makes a difference. The times are now correct. I might enable it again later but at least now I know what causes the problem. Thanks for your help.
