When I tried to download Hijack This earlier this evening the computer stored it as an image in Picture It Express. This happened no matter where I tried to save it to. Does anyone have any experience with this program so that I can download it properly? I read the tutorial but I still can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.
Do you mean you tried to download the installation file, in order to install Hijack This! on your computer?
Did you try right-click/save as?
Something may be badly borked with your file associations/MIME types; if you were downloading the installation file it was either an .exe or a .zip, and there’s nothing inherent in Hijack This! that would affect how your computer handles downloading these types of files. You might try downloading another file for another utility of some kind and see if you get similar results.
Alternatively, it’s at least slightly possible that the server you are downloading from is sending you an actual image file - maybe a “no hotlinking allowed!” type picture. Can you view the image? Was your download link from somewhere other than the official site?
More information would definitely be helpful.
Try downloading it from this page:
Thank you for your help. The spyware I wanted to get rid of is a very pernicious program called Tiny Boards and in the meantime I downloaded another program (XBlock?) which claimed to have removed it. But I will try to download Hijack this from the link Xash provided.
