Hey, I remember a while back reading a column that Cecil did about whether or not “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is based on a true story. I tried using search, but was unable to find the article. Is the articale still around? Can anyone help me find it?
Thanks a bunch, Eutychus55.
Hmmm… I still wonder why the search engine didn’t show the article when I tried “massacre” or “texas.” (I used “chainsaw” as one word instead of two in another search, so that would explain that round I suppose.)
Which search engine were you using? The button up in the upper right corner of this page just searches the message board postings, not the columns. If you want to search columns, you need to use the search linked to on the main straightdope page.
The search seems to be stuck on a single forum. Isn’t there a way to search all the forums?
Not any more. That feature was disabled since it was wearing down the hamsters and the emergency back-up gerbils.
Well, if they would just step into the 21st century and get themselves a couple of ferrets, there wouldn’t be this problem.
I used the search on the straight dope home page, not the message board search.
You mean the search on the Archive page, correct?
There’s two engines there, one takes you to what’s on the archive page itself, the other one goes through the columns, special reports, etc.
Neither of them has anything to do with the Straight Dopie Message Board search engine, which is a whole 'nother animal altogether.

pezwookiee, I went to this page, Welcome to the Straight Dope archives!, entered “texas massacre” in the search field, and found 4 columns, including the one mentioned by Eutychus55.
I think the correct explanation is what we computer nerds like to call “user error.” Go forth, and sin no more.
Actually…
A few weeks ago, there was a thread along the lines of “posters’ posting habits you find annoying”. I think it was in IMHO, and I’m tempted to say it was started by Phlip. Anyway, I was at KKBattousai’s place when I first saw the thread. Not wanting to mess with his cookies (heh), I decided to read more/post to it when I got home. But when I finally got home, I couldn’t find the thread.
Did the thread get deleted, or did I imagine it?
