I saw a film about 6 - 7 years ago. It was around 1950’s -60’s I think. I don’t know who the actors were and I can’t find this film anywhere.
The music video for PSY Gentleman reminded me of it.
Anyway, it went something like this…
There was a man who was not treating his wife very good, he’d put her down all the time, he’d flirt with other women, etc and he was pretty much treating her very badly. I think he was a bit of a party animal/womaniser
Anyway, one day he took two ladies in a cab and was going to take them somewhere, can’t remember where, probably back to his or a hotel and sleep with both of them, when they realised his intentions the one woman said no way and jumped out of the cab, he chased after her and got hit by a car.
The man is in hospital where he is bwing seen by a nurse, his wife comes to see him, the nurse tells his wife he is ready to go home and can arrange care to help at home as he will be in a wheelchair, the wife tells the nurse as she his his wife, she will take care of him by herself.
So the man is at home with his wife and he is now in a wheelchair.
The wife starts treating him like dirt and gets back at him for the way he treated her. She continuously stabs his sore leg with a needle she is supposed to inject him with, abuses him and makes his life a misery.
On his birthday she buys him a gift, when he opens it, it is a gun, she tells him it is to shoot himself with when he’s had enough or along the lines of that.
The description sounds like it could be a one-hour TV drama like Alfred Hitchcock Presents or something like that, a series that specialized in (arguably cheap) plot twists of that sort. They would have been in black and white, with a probably forgettable cast. The series was originally broadcast in the 60’s and was usually set at that time. If you saw this on TV, that might be a good guess.
I don’t know how to research individual episodes by contents or story line, though.
Roddy
It could also have been an episode of ITV’s Tales of the Unexpected, those these were generally made in the '70s and were based on short stories by Roald Dahl.
I may be wrong about the film not being Bitter Moon. It may actually well be. I’ve looked more into it and found details that do actually match what I had described. The thing is I think I only watched the film when it was half way through and only remember certain bits in between. I have ordered the dvd and will watch it so then I will know for certain, but I am definately sure its Bitter Moon now.
