Can't Uninstall McAfee Firewall Cleanly

On the advice of a number of Dopers, I decided to ditch McAfee for AVG So far it’s been pretty much of a disaster, but it looks like I’ve finally got AVG working. Now I would like to get rid of all semblences of McAfee, but when I uninstall McAfee Firewall I am no longer able to connect to the Internet. What’s up?

WAG that you’re not uninstalling the program completely. Have you visited the McAfee website and searched for removal tools? Getting rid of Norton isn’t a simple process from what I’ve read here in GQ, so I doubt McAfee is any easier.

Good luck.

Your problems are probably with a more recent version, but when my friends were having this problem. I found that uninstalling the TCP/IP protocol, rebooting and then reinstalling it (from Network Properties) sometimes restores the Internet connection, even if the manufacturer’s removal instructions and tools don’t do the job.

Since you didn’t specify which WinOS you have or if it is an Ethernet (home networking) or dial-up cionnection, I can’t be more specific.

Aside from the removal tool, I remember that I had to go into the registry and remove anything about McAfee. Be careful though as the registry is volitile.
