Former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Larry Allen, former coach Bill Parcells, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter, Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Warren Sapp, along with both senior nominees Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Curley Culp and former Green Bay Packers linebacker Dave Robinson have been elected to the Pro Football HOF.
Good for Chris Carter. Hopefully that opens the door for Tim Brown and Andre Reed. They’re both deserving. I much prefer the baseball HOF induction rules to football’s. Why a min/max?
Not sure, but it might be related to the fact that the Football Hall has a very different voting process.
There are only 46 “Selectors” for the Football Hall (mostly sportswriters); these voters narrow the candidates to 15 finalists by a series of mail ballots, then meet in the Super Bowl city on the day before the game to hash out the inductee list in a private, face-to-face meeting.
OTOH, the Baseball Hall’s voters are the established membership of the Baseball Writers Association of America (I believe that you need to have been a member of BBWAA for 10 years before you can vote), and the voting is done entirely by private ballot, rather than in any sort of meeting.
