Capable Non-US or Russian military jets?

Pardon me for posting, and this IS a pretty bizarre post, but I need a little help in a work of fiction of mine, and was hoping someone here could help…

I’m trying to invent a fictional organization with a fairly decent fighter wing, (It’s an Evil Organization, like “Cobra” or “SPECTRE,” as you might guess) and for originality’s sake I’d like to “equip” it with aircraft other than MiGs or old U.S. Aircraft. And unusual looking aircraft too, if at all possible. I’m thinking of Saabs (Drakens, Viggins, etc.) for starters, but I’m running into a wall. Can anyone else suggest any other “unique” aircraft that measure up to modern standards?
Well, thanks for your patience,
Ranchoth

The Israeli Kfir?

The French have a wide array of fine jets, although if flown in the presence of a German jet they automatically turn off their weapons systems and deploy white flag decoys.

The Tornado?

The EF-2000, of course, made a great video game.

Tornado and Jaguar - both multinational (Europeon) jets. Go here for non-US aircraft. The IAI Kfir is also interesting, and don’t forget the French!

How about the PZL-230F Skorpion (Polish ground attack aircraft)? Or the ARES, a similar concept?

The EuroFighter Typhoon, perhaps?

How about:
[ul][li]Saab JAS-39 Gripen[/li][li]Dassault Rafale C[/li][li]Nanchang Qiang-5 Fantan[/li][li]AIDC F-CK-1 Ching Kuo IDF[/li][li]Atlas Cheetah[/li]Shenyang J-8 II Finback[/ul]

Damn coding.

Not all russian aircraft were MiGs. Do a search and see what you can find on the Sukhoi Su-27. And if you go back a few years, there were soviet fighters and interceptors made by the Yakovlev (“Yak-”) and Tupolev (“Tu-”) design bureaus as well.

How about the British Harrier?

A modified version of the aircraft is built in the USA under licence as the AV8B for the USMC.

One of the only fixed-wing aircraft capable of flying backwards (slowly) it could give you a few interesting plot developments. Think of the bomb-aimers commands (left a bit…right a bit…back a bit).

Thanks Galen, I just spent 2 hrs at that link.

Great site.

You’re wlcome, WorldEater.

As to the OP, I like the Saab JAS-39 Gripen best, I think. Cool looking (which your average megalomaniac must have), and very capable.

And, it’s a safe plane.

I ditto the Harrier or another VTOL, STOL type craft. Your secret organization cannot afford, nor keep secret, large runways or full size carriers. They can also do things like fly and hover around skyscrapers in cities. (Although that is trite nowadays I guess.)
