Did I see a thread this morning on capitalism that later disappeared? The only poster I recall from the short thread was Ulfrieda, but can’t locate the thread or their post now. Operator error–that is, me–or something else?
New poster + first post + lengthy discourse on a probably divisive subject = assume it’s a trock.
If it was disappeared, then case closed.
Dang, because like Archer, “I had something for this…no, it’s gone.” Somewhat relieved there is a good chance I wasn’t hallucinating.
It was a foreign troll, so thread went away.
Thanks
I thought almost nothing was ever “disappeared” from the SDMB. Certainly shutdown but still left for any to see unless it was something truly vile and/or outright illegal or pure advertising spam.
(I’m not complaining about the moderation…just curious.)
When you delete a foreign troll/spammer, their posts go also.
So as this one started a thread, it basically vanished. I couldn’t move it to the cornfield like I would normally do.
I don’t think I’m violating any rules, this one was specifically a Chinese Troll.
We disappear spammers all the time. For Trolls and Trocks a large number of posts/threads end up in the Cornfield. This one was barely here and I deleted the account before I realized they had started a thread. I probably would have cornfielded the thread first if I had known, but no big deal.
What does it mean, “cornfield”?

I’m surprised someone that has been here longer than I have, didn’t know that one. The linked thread is dated, but still very helpful on SDMB terminology. Though I think only 2 terms have been added in the last 10 years.
It happens constantly.
I’ve made a few ill-advised posts here which I wish were disappeared but that never seemed to happen.
To be honest, I was surprised that these two long-time were unfamiliar with how things go around here.
That we don’t/won’t do typically. Two different issues. Long standing rules that predate not just my time as a Mod, but my time on the Board as a member.
If you follow any of the troll-watching threads in the Pit, it’s so common that people report on posts or threads that then vanish, it’s a cliche at this point.
I’m not complaining though. I think deleting a troll and/or sock’s contributions is the best way to deal with it. They come here to draw attention and zapping them from existence completely counters their goals.
I was thinking of a prison where inmates were buried in a wheat field and the flour was used to bale bread.
^^ Me too.
I didn’t know whole threads were sent to the cornfield; just posters. Like putting a poster on ignore for everyone (except the poster them self). But if the poster is the OP; I guess it makes sense that the whole thread goes.
So, you gonna eat the cornbread?
It makes me sad when people refer to concepts as coming from a movie/TV adaptation and not the original written source. The phrase comes from It’s a Good Life by Jerome Bixby.
(It reminds me of a national network news story once that covered some concept as being related to Fahrenheit 451, talked about the movie, showed clips from the movie, and never once mentioned that the movie was based on a book. Ray Bradbury would have rolled over in his grave, if he were dead yet. He might have rolled over in his living room.)
