Capitalizing 'I' but not 'we'

I just noticed this strange facet of English this morning. Why don’t we capitalize both? Isn’t ‘we’ just ‘I’ plus others?

I think “I” is capitalized only because a word consisting only of lowercase “i” is tiny and easily lost.

The question has come up before, but you can’t exactly search for “I.”
Hence, I’m proud of myself for finding:

Why is “I” written in capital letter?
Why is “I” capitalized, but not “me” or"my"?

Yeah, search wasn’t really doing it for me. Thank you.
