Why is I always capitalized?

I’m sure this has been asked before, but since SDMB won’t allow searches below three characters, I’lll have to ask again.

All other pronouns are lowercase, so why is ‘I’ always capitalized?

Think hard now – what other keywords might be used in a thread about your chosen topic? “capitalized”? “upper case”? “lower case”? “pronouns”? All these are searchable, which probably is what Shrinking Violet used.
