Capitol One Virus?

Hey Mah Dopers!

I’m sending you a portion of what I get when I try to log on to pay my credit card. Is this a virus and are some of you getting the same thing?

I don’t know what to tell you. I logged on to my account this morning without incident. I did not attempt to make a payment, though; I was just checking my balance.

Are you spelling the url as capitOlone, though? I’m using capitAlone.

Try going here for a phone number to contact them. If you’re logged into your account, you can even chat online with a representative.
eta: of course if just trying to log in gives you this problem, that’s probably a non-starter.

Not a virus. (at least not likely). It’s an error message indicating that a program on the bank’s web server failed when it tried to process whatever you asked it to do. All the nonsense you see is the location in the program where it failed.

You can contact them by email or phone to inform them of the error or just wait until they fix it.

Capital One is a virus. Absolutely the worst shits in the credit card world now that… what was their name… went out of business. It took me two years to cancel a Cap 1 card and the endless runaround with their robo-customer service was unbelievable.

Okay, well apparently it’s a java issue (or say they say). I appreciate the help, everyone. I always know just where to go when there’s something I don’t know or understand!

Thanks!

Quasi

I have to say I’m quite surprised they’re spitting out verbose error messages like that to their users. Without boring ya with why, conceivably messages like that can be used by hackers to get some idea of what’s going on behind the scenes. And it’s obviously not very user friendly either.

More to the point, it’s a Java problem at the bank’s web server. I recognize a few of those fingerprints in that word salad. The references to “com.bea.portlet” and such tells me they’re running Oracle BEA Weblogic as the Java application environment on their web services front end. I’ve worked with this environment. It can be hard to install it such that it’s bulletproof and doesn’t spew debugging nonsense on the HTML return page if it all goes sideways.

I tried logging in there the other night and got that same message. I haven’t tried logging in since.

I saw a piece on CNN today that claims Iran is (supposedly) behind hacking all kinds of US bank websites.

How 'bout that shit?
