I was watching an interesting program on Dolphins last night on Animal Planet. An ad came on for the drink Capri Sun, and it was set on a beach. It opens on two kids riding something I didn’t know existed – and I’m still not convinced it does.
Big wheel. That’s what it was, really. Two kids, each sitting on a minibike body, but instead of two wheels, they’re sitting inside one big, thin wheel, like they’re riding on the inside rim of a wagon-wheel. The rest of the commercial was all CGI’d up, but the two vehicles make a re-appearance at the end, and it looked real enough.
Anyone else seen it? Know what I’m talking about? Know what they’re called?
There certainly are real versions of what you’re describing - I don’t know what they’re called, but they exist. They’re supposedly very difficult to ride for several reasons:
-Hard to see where you’re going when you’re inside the wheel, staring at the inner rim
-Hard to brake - if the tyre grips the road too well, you just start rolling over and over
-Hard to turn - a big heavy wheel means a lot of gyroscopic conservation of momentum to work against.
This is sufficiently more streamlined and nice-looking than the devices I’d seen before, which were probably all custom-built, however, this one I think fits your description quite closely
