Car Buffs: Best Glue for Rubber Seal

I need to know the proper glue, epoxy, sealant, etc. to hold a rubber gasket around a door. I’m not exactly sure where this fell from, but it is about the shape of the door and has fallen into the cabin of the car. I need something to bond rubber to metal and withstand a wide range of temperatures. The simpler the glue, the better. I really don’t want to have to fool with protective gloves and/or mixing stuff…unless I must.

There’s goop specifically designed for that: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HBI91E/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_AD16Y1M0PVBQB3AGDV52

How will you know where to glue it, if you don’t know…?

You might take it to the dealer, they should (!) have the expertise and glue.

Auto parts stores have a myriad gasket and trim cement to choose from; they’ll advise.

Look at the other door for location hints.

Hold the freshly glued gasket with tape 'til the glue sets.

You should consult the dealer.

3M Weatherstripping Sealer

Yep, and it works great!

One thing to consider is that sometimes the weatherstripping isn’t glued on, but sort of mounts onto the door using friction, and may not be expensive to just replace outright, versus the headache of trying to glue it all together.

Thank you. I needed this and have just ordered.

Thanks, all. I’ll look into further.

If others find themselves in the same boat, I found that most weatherstripping is self-stick. I had a hard time finding what I needed at the hardware store unless I were willing to read the fine print of every bottle of adhesives. Then, I turned to auto supply stores instead where I found:

The best choice is a 3M product for just such a purpose to bond a door gasket and take temperature changes and vibration: 3M (Auto, Advanced) Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive.

Shoe Goo, a clear rubberized glue, is easy to find, and tough when it’s cured. I used it in my car to fix the same problem.
