Car problem 2009 Pontiac Vibe

I have close to 49k miles on my Vibe so the Bumper to Bumper warranty is no more. The Power train warranty is still good though.

My problem is when using the air conditioning I hear a grinding sound and water sloshing when I make turns. My SO has mentioned that she feels water at times and the mat on the passenger side is damp.

What could the problem be? Is it the water pump and am I looking at an expensive repair? Being without Air Conditioning is not an option for me.

If this only happens when you are running the AC then I would check the condensate drain. Running the AC produces a lot of condensate if its humid out. Have you ever noticed how cars will have a puddle of water under them on a summer day? The drain can become clogged due to mold. algae or just plain old dirt. The drain comes off the evaporator that is located in the cabin under the dash. It is not very accessible normally. I suppose there might be an access panel under the dash somewhere. Someone with Vibe experience might know or you should buy a Haynes manual.

You could crawl under the car and look for a drain coming through the fire wall and pointing down. Run a piece of wire or something similar up the drain to clean it out and hope for the best.

Seeing as how I am a fatass there is no way I’m getting under the car. I doubt a clogged drain falls under the powertrain.

If it is the drain line, then it shouldn’t be an expensive repair.

Grinding sound isn’t typical of a clogged A/C evaporator case drain, but everything else mentioned is. Get the drain tube cleaned out. It’s a fairly inexpensive procedure.

It was drain. Approximately 129 dollars later it is cleared, the blower motor is dry and re-lubricated and my AC works with no sloshing.

While I was there they said I need new front brakes and the rotors resurfaced and that will run me close to 300. Why is it when i have some spare money something comes along to use it up?
