I’m reading the funny papers at lunchtime and two characters in the Luann strip are at the Rocky Horror Picture Show. First panel has them with newspapers over their heads but the in the next they’re throwing playing cards as someone onscreen says “cards for sorrow, cards for pain.” WTF? Has some traumatic experience made me block out that part of the movie? I haven’t seen it in a theater in a few years but on video plenty of times since.
On a sad note Tucson’s Loft Theater may be ending it’s 22 year run of RHPS at the end of the year.
Hot patootie, bless my soul
I really love that rock and roll
Yes, panel 2 is in the “I’m going home” (if I recall the title correctly) song at the end, smeary mascara section.
Note also, the cartoonist has mixed up the order of the movie. Panel 3 should be before panel 2.
Since I’m one of those wierdos who has seen this flick over 100 times, not counting times seen since owning it on video, let me address this.
I’ve not seen the cartoon in question (the Plain Dealer doesn’t carry it :(), I quessing that the characters have the papers (the Plain Dealer, again!) over their heads during “There’s a Light” which is at the beginning of the movie before Brad and Janet meet Frank and the cards bit is during “I’m Going Home” which is at the end of the Floor Show and just about the end of the movie.
Did I mention I’d seen the movie a few times??
Did I also mention that I should probably get a life??
::arriving too late to add anything of use to the thread, Rhythmdvl throws into the air a stack of 3 X 5 index cards, half worded ‘sorrow’, half ‘pain’ ::
I’ve seen it over a hundred times, too. I played Janet, even.
Mr. Grey and I saw it this past Saturday for old time’s sake (I yell lines, he just watches). The theater was packed, and I got drenched (forgot the newspaper). The place was wrecked after the show.
And just to hijack, the 25th Anniversary special was on that Saturday, too, and Anthony Stewart Head (Giles from Buffy) did a song as Frank. I will never look at him the same way again … and Eric McCormack (Will from Will & Grace) did a great job as Frank too, he nailed it.
(Yes, I know Giles played Frank on stage… but still!)
Thanks for starting this thread. I managed to snag the last couple of tickets available for a local stage production of The Rocky Horror Show. It received great reviews, it’s in its closing weekend, and you convinced me to get off my duff and go see it.
