This is actually for my husband. He has been a truck driver for nearly 15 years, and spent one year as a dispatcher. He was good at the job and liked it, but the pay was so low that he ended up going back out in a truck again just to make ends meet.
Now he’s 40, with a family to support and a body that’s starting to give out, and he would really like to go back into the administrative side of trucking again. But since he’s ‘just a driver’ with no education beyond high school, he’s finding it tough going.
What do Dopers think? Is it necessary for him to pursue a degree in logistics/transportation before any company will look at him seriously, or are there still companies out there who are more interested in the experience he has from the years in the industry?
