Cargo pants (not shorts)

Whats your opinion on them? Do you consider them to be a good alternative to wearing jeans on a regular basis or not?

I like pockets. I see no reason to not use them as casual trousers in any situation where jeans would be acceptable.

How 'bout a casual business setting.

How 'bout it?

I like them - great when you need a lot of pockets, and I’ve got some Kevlar-reinforced ones for riding my motorcycles, as you can easily access the pockets while sitting on the bike.

As far as casual wear, they seem acceptable at any place that would accept khakis/dockers and the like, though they don’t look as good.

I have some really nice ones, you do pay a fair price for nicely cut ones but yes.

I wear them every day at work; they rock.

When not at work, I don’t wear pants.

I wear them all the time, except in summer, when I wear cargo shorts. I can’t seem to get enough pockets.

I don’t like them at all but they seem particularly inappropriate for any kind of business setting. I think I’d have a very hard time taking anyone who wore them to work seriously.

When you say casual business, I’m thinking by you mean like a white collar professional office setting. They’d look fine on a custodian or warehouse worker or something similar who needs the pockets.

The only ones I think look OK for casual business are well-fitted and the cargo pockets are flat with no pleats. For instance, these might be OK,these not so much, and these would look really sloppy.

The first ones with a nice shirt and shoes would be fine in any corporate dress down friday. The trick is fitted and wear decent friggen shoes, dont dig out your old boat shows from 1993.

Very casual or you’re working a fairly mechanical/techy job - tolerable.

Any other situation - never, ever wear them. They’re loose, sloppy, baggy and ugly. If it’s for function AND it’s acceptable to look sloppy, then fine. Otherwise skip them. Seriously. I’ve worn them, you will not be able to convince me they are any more comfortable than a nicely fitting pair of good-looking jeans, khakis or slacks, all of which look better than cargo pants. Even casual.

My younger son swears by them. Says he can slip his wallet (long story there) along his thigh rather than cramming it into the back pocket of his jeans (uncomfortable to sit on.) The good ones are pricey…$35 to $60 so we snap them up when they’re on sale. Too casual in some circles maybe, but since he has linebacker shoulders and a swimmer’s abs, he make them look good. And he wears them to work, at which he makes money. And it’s all good.

I get the military (so to speak) BDU trousers at surplus shops. Cheap, comfy, relatively sturdy and long-lasting, basic black (goes with anything!) and the extra pockets are great. Coin-pouch, folder with membership and discount cards, flashlight, tape measure, eyeglass strap, ball-strike indicator (you never know when a softball game might break out) and other useful crap.

It’s not just clothing; it’s a lifestyle!

They go well with sports jerseys and flip flops.

All the talk about the pockets reminds me that I have about a half dozen pairs of Dockers with multiple hidden pockets. I bought them before cargo pants became a fad for awhile about a decade ago. I wonder why these pants did not succeed- I guess maybe because Dockers are seen as dorky pants for old people or something. It’s really difficult for me to find clothes that seem like they were made for men over 13 but younger than seniors.

I have cargo pants, and I have ones that even zip off and become shorts, but I don’t really wear them anymore. I mostly wear jeans now. I only wore jeans until I was 18-19. Then I had a sexy older GF who insisted on my not dressing like a teenager and always bought me various khaki type pants and shirts. Around 26-27 I got big into the cargo pants. Now I’m 33 and mostly doing jeans, while having a difficult time steering clear of “dad jeans” while also consciously avoiding ones made for anorexic people with no crotch mass.

I’m not a big fan of jeans for some reason, so most of my pants are either Dickies (I have some black pairs I wear to work, nobody knows they’re not “slacks” or whatever the hell I’m supposed to wear) or the cargo pants.

I like pockets, so they’re handy. But mostly I like them because they’re the only non-jeans, non-dress pants I can find.

Since I discovered Tru-Spec tactical pantsyears ago, they’re all I wear.
The number and configuration of pockets is awesome. The dedicated knife and baton or magazine pockets are genius.

They make shorts as well, and I have several of those as well.

They go with everything, everywhere!

I love them, since they make it easier to ensure that I always have something to read with me.

However, I consider them strictly casual wear. If the pockets are loaded up with cargo, they look bulgy, and if they aren’t, what’s the point?

It pisses me off that they’re sometimes only available in shorter inseams. Us long-legged guys like pockets too, y’know.

Those are much sleeker than what I currently wear. I’ll have to order a pair to see how they fit. Thanks.

I love cargo pants since I like to carry a lot stuff around with me. Pair your cargo pants with a SeV dress shirt and become your own backback.
