I might be wrong, but I think you’re thinking about Daniel Schor (Shor, Schur, whatever).
I’d hold out for Teller.
Both of them need new teeth. Desperately. The limerick segment is almost unintelligible sometimes.
My favorite lineup would be Paula, Roy and Tom. My least favorite is Kyrie O’Connor, but Amy Dickinson and her fakey tittering laugh are really grinding my nuts lately.
Daniel Schorr, BTW.
Another fan here of “Wait Wait!” and “Whadya Know?” I’ve seen the latter being taped live, twice. Good fun. I was this close to being picked by Michael Feldman to play the show on the air, but he picked some idjit a few rows back instead. The noive.
Two more fans checking in. Listening to the Saturday NPR line up of “Car Talk”, “Whadya Know?” and “Wait Wait!” is part of our weekend routine now. I’ve tried to call in for the quiz part of “Whadya Know?” once or twice but never gotten through. If i ever do, should I throw in an SDMB reference?
Another Wait, Wait fan checking in. My wife and I saw the taping in St. Paul a few years ago. Definitely fun. Louie Anderson lost for the listener on “Not my job” but arranged for the person to get tickets and meet him at his performance that weekend. I think it’s classy when the star contestants do stuff like that. (Such as Penn Jillette as mentioned.)
Wait, Wait and Car Talk are funnier than any of the s(h)it-coms on TV. Unfortunately we don’t get Says You! here. None of them hold a candle to some of the British quiz shows. Have any of you heard Just a Minute on the BBC? That one would usually have me in tears of laughter. Haven’t heard it for years though.
They are both unintelligible. I may have them mixed up, but I think Daniel Schorr is more likely to be doing editorials, which drive me up a wall as well. I’ll try listening this afternoon and see which way round it is.
Another Says You fan, here, and I’ll go you one better: I was at a taping in Lincoln several years ago, and handed Richard Sher a card with an unusual word* after the taping was over. When listening a few months later, I was ecstatic to hear him use my word. Of course, I forgot to put my name on it, and received no credit, let alone a PUPP.
- “Winklehawk”, for those playing along at home.
A BBC program similar to Says You is My Word. It’s been in repeats for over a decade, but you’d hardly know it when you listen to the program.
I hope I’m not giving away a show secret here, but on the Bluff the Listener segment, whenever Adam’s story is a bluff, it’s almost always set in Wisconsin.
If I ever did get to be a contestant, Bluff the Listener is the game I’d be dreading. Especially if it’s a Roxanne show, she’s just scary good at that game.
Kassell is headlines, Schorr is commentary.
I have to say, I’m glad Schorr is sounding as good as he does lately (while granting that it’s nowhere hear as good as in years past). This past holiday season, he sounded like he was struggling with pneumonia or something, and I thought about joining a Death Pool, just so I could put his name in it.
And yes, Kassell needs to switch denture fixative brands.
