Carnivore, herbivore, insectivore, omnivore...

Are there any other types of “'vores”?

bibliovore

granivore
ossivore
phytivore
piscivore

(Most of these are found with the adjectival -vorous ending rather than as nouns ending in -vore.)

From a site on difficult words, Feeding and Eating

Dictionary.com does not have an entry for bibliovore, and it seems that bibliophiles don’t usually eat books. Bibliophage might be insulted to know there’s no entry for him/her either.

I’m looking for other types of eaters if there are any.

I spoke too soon…

Thanks for the research BTW.

frugivorous - fruit eater.

nectivorous - nectar eater.

and tomndebb beat me to it in his/her link.

A few more, not on the list tomndebb linked to, which are fairly regular in the scientific literature:

detritivore: feeding on detritus
folivore: feeding on leaves
fungivore: feeding on fungi
planktivore: feeding on plankton

There are many many more. It would be hard to determine how many exactly, since they are frequently coined by scientists writing about specialized feeding types.

There’s one for creatures that feed on blood, I think it’s sanguivore or something similar.
