Carol Channing....Homophobe?

I wouldn’t take her statements in the recent interview too seriously. Her Wikipedia bio says that she served as celebrity host of a Gay Pride Day in Hollywood.

She also somehow ended up on Nixon’s Enemies LIst.

I started reading this thread without reading the link, and as a result now have to erase the image of Carol Channning being gang-banged from my brain. Damn your eyes! Can you imagine what her screams of orgasmic ecstasy would sound like…whimper…whimper

“Rraaaaaaaaaaaaaspberrieeeees!”

I don’t believe it. I saw Carol Channing doing a live performance last year, and, frankly, there isn’t a sign of hate in anything she does.

In fact, even the interview shows little sign of any sort of homophobia. She’s grateful that gays like her, but, because of what the bible says, she doesn’t think about gays. She makes it quite clear she is not interested in gay rights one way or another.

This is something to get in a dudgeon about?

I’m not worried about the interview as much as I am the clown nose she is wearing in that picture. What’s up with that?

Maybe she goes to Michael Jackson’s plastic surgeon?

I guess. Why is it red?

Perhaps it was one of the other 7.

From the television interviews I’ve seen of her lately, Ms. Channing is senile. She covers well, and the people around her cover for her well, but she doesn’t seem to know where she is half the time.

Like that’s the only reason to stay clear of Miami.

Ohio.

Well, she did wonder if she “had a glandular problem.” Wow, like a chimp in heat. (Yes, I’ve read the thread, & I know that’s not what she meant.)

Comparing her past actions, her somewhat disjointed comments in the interview, and the apparent non sequitur of her post-interview reaction (noted in the link), I see someone who is currently befuddled. I did not see any animosity towards gays.

Guess that depends on where you are in New York.
Brooklyn is full of hairy scaries and homophobes.

You know, between this thread and the ones about Charlton Heston and Tom Wolfe, I really think these boards are getting a little trigger-happy about outing celebs as bigots on flimsy evidence.

Not that this is bad. We can even have fun with it. How about these threads:

Why does Liz Taylor Hate Deaf Peole?
Kevin Costner: Midget-Hater?
Did Don Knotts Deny the Armenian Holocaust?
Walt Disney: Mormon-phobe?

Then again, the Dopers who called Mel Gibson an anti-Semite based on Passion of the Christ have been just a little bit vindicated.

Wasn’t she on some awards show recently…maybe the Oscars?

At any rate, I recall thinking while watching on that show, “I hope she doesn’t forget where she is and just wander off stage…”

The woman was never known as the brightest bulb on Broadway, but she seems to be even dizzier than usual. My guess is her managers/handlers know she is one brain cell away from senility and are doing their best to keep her on track.

I’m Gay and take no personal offense…and besides, as Otto said, who really cares what she says.

My take is that, if asked, she would also have said aliens from a UFO killed Kennedy and that Elvis is alive and washes her car on Thursdays.
