Carpet beetles and wood floors?

One day last week, I discovered some brown beetles on the wall of my bedroom. They were [del]walking[/del] [del]creeping[/del] menacing their way upward, over a camp chair with some laundry on it. I found 3 that night, one at a time, spaced about an hour apart. I did my duty as an insecticidal maniac and murdered them with extreme prejudice. I didn’t know at the time what sort of beetle they might be. I just assumed the usual kind that enter your ear while you sleep, chew a hole through your brain, then nibble on your eyeballs from the inside. Therefore, I could not in good conscience allow them to live. Problem solutionized!

Or not. Because this morning, I discovered a very obviously-nibbled hole in the pink sheet that was sitting on that chair. :frowning:  I don’t know if they ate it last week and were in the process of moving up the wall to seek more delicious fibers. Or perhaps they left children behind, who may *even now *be munching through my unmentionables. I didn’t have time to look at all the stuff that was sitting on the camp chair this morning, so I’ll have to do that when I get home.

After a quick trip to the google, I discovered that I had(have?) carpet beetles. The thing that kills me is, I don’t even HAVE carpets–there is parquet flooring throughout the entire house. So I don’t have to worry about larvae hiding in the carpet backing, or altering vacuuming patterns, or even vacuuming at all. I just sweep and mop as needed. I think the most likely way they got in was from the camp chair itself, which I had recently used outdoors at my mom’s house. I bagged it up in the dark, so it’s very possible that they intentionally lurked in the cupholder with visions of cotton sheets and wool yarn dancing about their heads. Oh right, I also have a moderate-sized yarn stash to check, too. I hope they didn’t eat my beautiful cerulean Lion’s Brand wool yarn. Winter’s coming, and I have scarves to make dammit!

So, what the hell was my question, anyway? Oh yeah, I’d like to know what kind of pesticide I can/should use (other than my mitts), IF there is still a problem–or if pesticide is even indicated for this issue. Whatever method I use needs to be fabric-safe, but not pet-safe. I’d opt for the usual nuking from orbit, except I’m renting. I’m hoping that, since I haven’t seen any more since the 3 stooges last week, I might be in the clear. Yes? There was only the one hole in the sheet, and I didn’t see any larvae on the sheet. Assuming that I don’t find any more beetles or visible larvae, might the problem already be taken care of (please for the love of god)? Do I need to maintain a state of hypervigilance for the next few days/weeks/months? Should I get a steel-wool (or something) bag to store my linens in? Scrap my entire wardrobe and start from scratch?
