Cars with wheels that lean into the turn [new title]

http://www.cruzio.com/~seaweb/benzdealer/f300.html
why aren’t more cars like this?..why don’t they use this technology yet?..this seems like a brilliant technology…

APT all over again, well, sort of.

Thank you Stan Dunn for promoting your web site on the Straight Dope!

That technology isn’t exactly new, you know.

jeff olsen, i’m not exactly sure what u think is going on in that picture, but to me it sure looks like the turn is going to the cars left and the car is leaning to its right…that’s what happens in any car making a sharp turn

I have changed the title of the thread. In the future, please try to choose more descriptive titles.

well, since car tires /= motorcycle tires, that would be dumb.

do your sidewalls have tread?

This one is cooler, and they’ve been around for years:

The Eco-Mobile.

Sam, that site’s background makes my head hurt…:frowning:

GM developed the same thing back in the 80s.

You can tilt a narrow tire with a rounded section, such as a motorcycle or very light car. A heavy car requires wide tires with rectangular cross section and you can’t tilt those.

Point is that the Citroën 2CV, intoduced in 1948, leans further than any other car. It was purposely designed with a soft independent suspension to provide as much traction as possible when cornering. Cars like the one in the OP dropped one wheel and reversed the lean.
