A Google search for “snowman” lead to the German cartoon Der Schneeman, which was made in Germany under the Third Reich, in 1944.
You can watch it here. I knew the Nazis had a film industry, but it was a little surprising - and more than a little weird - to watch a sweet, funny kid’s cartoon and know what we know about when and where it was made.
Nothing more to add…just wanted to share in case anyone else found it as interesting as I did.
Oh, I lied: I do have something else to add. Researching the cartoon brought me to this list of German films made during the Nazi era. Lots of curious things there, including The Kaiser of California, the first Nazi-made western, which includes some scenes shot on location.
ETA: Re. the cartoon, FYI that there’s nothing evidently Nazi about it. No swastikas, no master race talk - nothing. It’s just a cartoon about a snowman.
