Cartoon Uncles-- a stupid question I can only ask here.

Who were Popeye and Donald Duck’s siblings? The parents of the nephews? At first I thought perhaps Scrooge McDuck was the father of Huey, Louie and Dewey but I believe those three have been known to call him Unca Scrooge while Donald is also Scrooge’s nephew.

And what kind of mean parent names their child Poop Eye?

Donald has a sister named either Della or Dumbella, pretty sure the official name is Della for obvious reasons. She is the mother of the triplets, their father has never been revealed but Don Rosa promised to eventually.

Scrooge is their great uncle, he had two sisters one of whom is the mother of Donald and Della.

Della Duck was Donald Duck’s sister and the mother of Huey, Dewey, and Louie.

Family Tree

That tree is. . . well, a lot of fun! I’m thinking up stories as I look. I’m not that seeped in to Disney folklore but it sure looks like Donald’s parents were the Lockhorns of waterfowl world.

Do the 'Eye’s have that deep a history?

According to the Popeye Wiki, Poopdeck Pappy (Popeye’s father and a recurring character in the Popeye stories) has called Popeye his only child. Unlike his father, Popeye’s mother was never mentioned in the classic stories. But in recent revivals of the series, his mother was indentified as Pappy’s wife, Roxy. Pappy and Roxy split up and presumably Roxy had a child with another man and this child, who would have been Popeye’s half-sibling, was the parent of Popeye’s nephews, Pipeye, Peepeye, Poopeye, and Pupeye.

There was also a cartoon with Popeye and Son, where he finally married Olive…

If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s a dirty duck dingus.

Didn’t Mickey have some nephews too?

Hickie, Licky and Sticky?

Yes. Morty and Ferdie. Their mother is Mickey’s sister.

Mortimer Mouse was Mickey’s original name, but then it was given instead to his rival for Minnie, but then Morty Mouse, his nephew, was then given the name too.

Interestingly, unlike the Duck boys, Morty and Ferdie don’t share a surname with their maternal uncle. Perhaps there are very few waterfowl surnames… the alternatives don’t seem very Disney-esque.

Meanwhile, Daisy Duck had (IIRC) nieces named April, May and June.

By all accounts, she was bringing up three very lovely girls. Apparently, all of them had feathers of gold (like their mother). The youngest one in curls.

Then they were all decoyed and shot, and that’s how they became the Brady’s brunch.

Question: did Daisy Duck exist in any medium other than the 50’s comic books?

Mr Duck Steps Out

Yes. Her first appearance was in 1940, and has appeared in at least 11 shorts, several features, countless television episodes (where she still appears regularly), video games, and comics well outside the 50s - starting in 1943 and continuing to this day.

Why is Daffy Duck in the family tree?
(lower left)

I had no idea. Thanks.

Was Donald responsible for HD&L, in the sense of being their legal guardian? Did they live with him? Or did they just visit a lot because they liked hanging out with their doofus uncle?
