"Case Histories" on PBS

Wait - what? My DVR says there’s another one next weekend, covering the next book “When Will There Be Good News”

Oooh, really? I do hope you’re right. There were no “next week” previews after this one last night, though.

Now I think I missed one somehow - the PBS schedule says “When Will There Be Good News” aired on October 30th, but the one I just watched involved the dead girl turning up in the Firth Of Forth. Maybe local (Portland) PBS is a week behind.

Yes, it aired on Oct 30 in Portland and the series is done.

No, but I got the impression that Quentin killed his aunt after she’d threatened to cut him out of the will and that he would be arrested for her murder. It’s not explicit though, just the revelation that the nephew wasn’t going to inherit. They never did say how Binky died but it was suspicious, I thought.

I missed most of the broadcast so have been watching the DVDs – six episodes.

I need to rewatch because I’m totally confused about the story with the shady businessman and the Russian dominatrix. Who was the guy who disconnected the guy’s respirator, and was he the same guy who slipped Canning (the writer) a mickey? And why would a hospital insist (or even suggest) that Canning go home with him in the first place? “He’s got a concussion and needs to be watched. You’re here, might as well be you!” Was he hired to kill comatose guy’s wife? And did the wife end up paying him to kill comatose guy?

Whatever. I’m totally in love with Jackson and hope there’ll be more stories. It’s hard to believe he’s unethical, because he has a real sense of morality and fair play, even if he breaks all the rules.

Amen. I frequently use captioning. Especially for the thick scottish accents in that show.

My big annoyance is I get tired of all the points too neatly fitting together. Like the son of his cop former partner / somewhat love interest just happens to be at the scene of the attempted murder that also involves the writer guy, and the boy ends up stealing the flash drive of the writer guy. God that boy is annoying.

I think the neatly fitting points are the point. We’re all connected. We’re all in this together. (I’m pulling for ya!)

I’m usually annoyed at such contrivances too, but not here.

Bets on the writer being a big fan of Judge Dee? As I recall, having three stories that wound up being interrelated was a feature.

Just watched the one and only special feature on the DVD – 15 minutes of conversation with Atkinson, Isaacs, the producer (director?), and the actress who plays Louise.

I gotta say, Louise is much more attractive in real life than she is on the show. Maybe it’s the lighting. She doesn’t wear a lot of makeup as Louise and her hair isn’t styled at all – she’s kinda frumpy. In the interview, she wasn’t wearing a lot of makeup and she didn’t have her hair styled either, but damn, she is beautiful as herself, much more than she is as Louise.

After watching the interview, I’m thinking the cinematographer or the makeup artist didn’t do her any justice at all.

I agree. The entire premise of the show was that all of these cases were connected, and this detective just happened to stumble into them. Just ordered the second book in the series.
