Cash Cab Question (Discovery)

I wonder how much of our Dopers ended up in an Cash Cab with Ben Balily?

I wish I could be on Cash Cab! So much easier than Jeopardy! Plus anyone else in the cab can contribute answers. What’s not to love? Oh, the lack of ability to win really big bucks. :frowning:

Also, I love Ben, he’s so crazy! My mom thinks he’s usually drunk on the show. :stuck_out_tongue:

I would LOVE to get in the Cash Cab! So would my kids! I would kick ass on that show- I am a useless trivia whiz.

ETA- my kids try to scout for minivan cabs when we’re in Manhattan!

I saw him the other month doing stand up on Comedy Central. It was actually pretty good, though a bit more raunchy than you’d expect, since most people know him just from Cash Cab,

This would be hard to get on though.

Jeopardy you have to be smart, Cash Cab is luck.

I think I read that they aren’t all random pick-ups even though they play them that way. That may have changed.

Also, they don’t actually get the cash at the end of the ride. The cash is for show. They get sent a check in the mail for tax purposes.

Yeah, I got to watch the last half hour a “bit” of his a good while back. I remember laughing pretty much constantly.

<3 Ben doing stand-up or Cash Cab.

I happened to catch a phrase during the end credits, something like “Some contestents are pre-screened…” I complained to my wife, because I do enjoy the show. She told me that was how they get groups of pretty girls in one segment and the obviously stupid as soon as they sit in the cab in the next segment. Now, I can usually tell when someone is acting surprised.

I noticed the “some contestants were pre-screened” blurb at the end too. I wonder if they do this to get some people who will actually get far in the game instead of getting kicked out immediately. I saw one episode with four normal-looking 20-year-olds and none of them had never heard of the Taj Mahal (the very first question). One of them even said, “These are the easy questions?!?”

On the other hand, I saw an episode recently with a singe guy, and he ended up with around $6400. The $400 questions were pretty hard. I thought they were much harder than most Jeopardy questions.

$400 questions?? Where was the guy going? Long Island?

It might have either been the “night” cash cab where the values are doubled or a show in the new season, where the values are also doubled from the very original question values.

Going to Long Island might have helped too though. :stuck_out_tongue:

I saw that episode. It was a double ride (I think it was after dark). He got 3200 and doubled it. Ben said it was a new record.
