Casinos and urine soaked carpets?

It’s pretty tangential, but on the only occasion I’ve been shown round a British bingo club (in Stockton-upon-Tees; apparently the venue the Beatles were playing the evening Kennedy got shot) as a guest of the management, I was told that it was fairly standard practice for slot machine players to lick their coins for good luck prior to them putting them in. The staff really did not appreciate the build-up of dried saliva inside the machines.

Licking the coins? Nasty. Can you imagine how many dirty, piss smelling fingers have been on each and every one of those coins? Damn that’s strange.

And yes, slot tournaments are very boring. Unless, of course, you are a slot junkie. Most tournys are set up with a certain number of credits already preset onto each machine. Ten players (in our casino) each pick a machine, and then see how many credits they have after all of their initial credits are used. That, or else it is a timed tournament, where each player has five minutes to rack up as many credits as they can. Usually the winners gets a prize (usually cash, sometimes RV’s and stuff for the bigger tournys) and the person with the lowest total gets a consolation prize. It’s just basically sitting at a machine and pressing the button as fast as you can for five minutes. A lot of people like them just because they get to see the jackpot symbols lined up on the “payline,” even if they don’t get to keep the money that comes with it. Tournament mode makes the machines pay out at a 200% rate, or more.
