Man, this game is addicting. They keep adding to it. This morning, there is yet another type of battle. I’m so far behind, I don’t know if I’ll ever feel caught up.
Anyone else playing?
Oh, and thanks a lot for the new update. I lost a Gold Dragon I spend a couple 100K stamina on.
Yeah, it has its claws into me as well. It keeps getting better, deeper, and more nuanced. It is still a basic click-wait for energy/stamina to recharge game, but they have a lot of different ways for people to play: quests, group monster battles, duels (for people with no friends), invasions (for people with a lot), and this new “raid” thing. It keeps me coming back more than Mafia Wars and several of the other Facebook games.
BTW, I’m still growing my army. It’s only a little above 200.
Here’s a link to my Facebook Page: Wolverine to add me as a friend. Make sure to put Castle Age & Straightdope in the message
I’m already in your army. Got you from an earlier thread. I’ve still got less than 200 army so I’ll take any joiners.
Yesterday was fun. After they added the Raid, everything went glitchy and I ended up with two or three energy refills. Of course, I also lost a dragon. Fortunately the game let me summon another so it’s all good.
Got pissed off today though. This morning I started a Sapphire Sea Serpent and CTA’d it. I really wanted the loot, especially a map piece. Some greedy power-hitter swooped in and snarfed the whole battle after I’d blown all my energy & stamina on it. Fucker. Then I joined a Keira fight just started, then another greedy bastard came and killed her off before I got even 100K on her.
Lesson learned: don’t CTA anything until after you get all the DMG points you need.
71 Stamina is pretty good. I brought mine up to 130 so it would continue to accrue when I don’t check on it for 10 hours. It’s nice waking up in the morning with 120 stamina waiting there for me to throw at some beastie.
Some new developments in the game yesterday. They’ve added a couple new lands to purchase, and if you’re like me and found yourself with your income slashed almost in half when they introduced limits on how much land you can own based on your level, the new land gives you an opportunity to start increasing your income again. They’ve also added some deal about winning some bonus stuff by “collecting” your income everyday. I don’t know what “collecting” means. I just let it sit there, pile up, and buy more Champion’s Aura, etc.
I was talking to an older power-hitter the other day about his game play. His stamina recently went over 1,000. He told me not to neglect the demi-quests. I’d been ignoring those for some reason as unimportant but I realized they’re an easy way to pile on loads of stat points. I’ve gone from around 130 stamina to almost 200 now, in a short time. Also got the “complete 25 quests to level four” achievement bonus (or is it 50, can’t remember now), which bought me a new general. At this point, very little of my energy and stamina goes to waste when I"m not around to use it.
You have the opportunity to get an item from the Dwarven miners every hour when you collect your income. Of course if you only log in once a day, there’s only one possibility to collect income. If you were active, you could possible get 24 rewards in a day. The elven alchemists are only once a day (when collecting income).
I like it. I had so much property over the new cutoff that I sold a fair amount and maxed out both new properties.
I’ve recently rediscovered the demi-quests as well. Great source of stats.
Do you know the Elite Guard trick so that your Elite Guard is almost always full? I have a bookmark folder where I’ve collected a bunch of people’s Elite Guard links (about 23) from their CTAs and open them all at once. I go from having no one in the Elite Guard to maxed out in about 30 seconds. I only need to do it once a day when the timer runs out. I never bug people with Elite Guard requests again or worry about it not being filled.
Welcome to the madness. Since you’re new, you should decide what you want to focus on for now.
Just do quests - energy is your best friend
Monster fighting - stamina and attack
PvP invade - attack and lots of friends
PvP duel - attack and some defense
When I started I only cared about quests (this was before they introduced monsters), so I put a lot into energy and some into defense and health (to keep others from stealing my money). PvP did not interest me at all so attack and stamina were my ignored stats. Then they introduced monsters which quickly became my favorite part of the game and not so much the quests. Unfortunately I was way behind on my stamina and it has taken a long time to get to a decent amount to attack monsters for a sustained time. Now my stats are all around good with my defense and health higher than others, though stamina still less.
Don’t ignore the demi-powers. Free stats and items for each blessing.
Those new properties are sweet. I’ve been selling off some of my excess old land and buying the new lands and am now making more money than I was before. I also got a stamina potion from the elves/dwarves whatever they are. Ten stamina points is much handier than the ten energy point potions. Night before last I was burning off all my points on monsters before bed and some twat chain attacked me and got a little over a million gold. I had some health but no stam so as usual, I immediately invaded him to see what would happen. Sure enough, too big to take with my army. So I tried a duel. Ha! Weak dueler. I chained him right back ten times, got at least 1.5 million off him and killed him, thanks to that little stam potion. Oh, and 15 battle points per attack - 150 battle points, woo! The killing blow also brought me down to 5 health so I could quit and ghost for the night. Love it when that happens!
Little hint in case you don’t know: everyone uses their Amulet of Cefka and Holy Avenger sword to create the Excalibur sword. You can’t get another Holy Avenger but you can get another Cefka. I see lots of people with Excaliburs who didn’t get their Cefka back, but it’s well worth going back and getting, as it’s a personal item you can use in duels.
Another thing I just noticed for the first time: the game randomly drops things during questing. Not the usual stuff; I got a Water Demon. Good little unit I’ve never seen before and I don’t see him on the Castle Age wiki either. Must be a fairly rare drop.
Another thing about the new land purchases: I’ve noticed the dwarves drop a lot of little magic items like Hero’s Resolve and Angelic Blessing. Lots of people have a hard time getting a full complement of magic items but that’s worth taking the time to do. Champion’s Aura is ridiculously expensive to buy once you get up around 200 of 'em.
New to the game? Games on Facebook? Castle Age is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual Zynga games which are regularly updated to become more and more tedious and frustrating to play. Those games are like a huge “fuck you” to the people who play them, all because God forbid some little script kiddie somewhere might cheat. Whatever. The makers of Castle Age seem to want to genuinely make the game fun, and not just punish people stupid enough to try to play. I’m really getting a case of the ass with Vampire Wars, Mafia Wars, etc. I barely spend any time on those games anymore. Farmville is the only thing Zynga makes that’s worth it, if that sort of game is your cup of tea. Even that pisses me off with the unending barrage of game-halting pop-ups. /hijack.
My first word of advice for new Castle Age players is to concentrate on buying land. It’s much more expensive to stock up on weapons and things early on a bit unlike similar other games where it’s relatively easy to build up to 100 million/hour. My second word of advice is to ignore your health points. It’s easy to buy yourself more health when you need but you really don’t want a lot of health, because that just means more people can attack you more times before you die, which means they can also take much more money and battle points from you.
I don’t know about the Elite Guard bookmark trick. When Elite Guards started I just started plopping people’s links into a text document so I can click on a bunch quickly to fill up. I assume the bookmark trick is similar, but you put all the bookmarks into a folder within your browser?
I use Google Chrome. I can create a bookmark folder that contains all the Elite Guard links. I right click on the folder and it opens all the bookmarks inside into a new window with each in separate tabs. Pretty quick and convenient. Castle Age is able to handle all the requests with no problem. The first 8-12 is either I’ve joined the guard or their guard is full. The rest is my guard is full.
I agree with you about the waste of health, but I have an overabundance of it (176!). Part of that is early on I was distributing it in health and not stamina. But part of it is Aurora, 45 health stats to get the Moonfall Amulet, a must for monster fighter or PvP duels.
At this point, I no longer care about money. If some jerk takes a million off of me, I roll my eyes because I got 23 billion in the bank and even more than that in unsold properties. But I must admit, it is sweet to get revenge.
I have little taste for prolonged PvP myself. I try to only attack once unless the battle points are 15 or over. Then only 1 or 2 more times. I don’t like it when somebody attacks me over and over, so I try not to do it to others. Unless they started it. But usually I befriend them. If they are that strong, they’re welcome to my army.
176 health or defense? I’m not sure what you’re saying. To get the Moonfall Amulet takes 4500 Demi-points, which is just a matter of time (and fighting for the 10/day max), not related to health. I don’t think. Am I missing something? I don’t have the Moonfall yet but soon.
I don’t care about money in fighting either. My usual $115,000 per attack means nothing compared to the $100 million/hour plus I make off land. The money is just a matter of principle I guess. You took x amount from me, I’m taking x amount back, plus interest.
When I first started the PvP fighting was of no interest to me, except for demi-points and access to new level-based units and items, like Valor Knight, Champ’s Aura, etc. I was weaned on Vampire Wars culture where it’s dickish to attack more than three times and if you do, it gets you hit-listed.
CA is different in that there is no hitlist and PvP fighting is all about being a huge dick and getting as many battle points as possible. That’s just the way it is, ALL about the battle points. After trying my best to never look down at the battle news section because I really didn’t want to know how many times I was getting raped, I became a little appalled and decided to join in the vicious, no-holds barred raping and pillaging. At my battle level, it’s hard to find opponents that’ll earn me battle points so when I find someone who gives up 6 or more battle points I chain them. If I don’t get battle points off a weakling, I leave them alone. Not worth my time. The players who give up battle points would chain me if they could. That’s about the only way to make the higher combat level titles and you can bet that’s how my opponents got where they are.
284 energy
150 stamina
322 attack
294 defense
176 health
Do you know about demi-power blessings? You receive a blessing from the demi-power of your choice once a day. Then you get a stat in the corresponding demi-power (Azeron-stamina, Aurora-health, etc.) and 100 + 5 demi-points. I’ve already maxed out at the old level of 4500 Azeron, Aurora, and Malekus. I’m a week from reaching 4500 with Corvintheus and about a month to max Ambrosia. I rarely get my demi-points from PvP.
To get the blessing, just click on the demi-powers on the home page or under the oracle tab. Choose the demi-power you want and click “Receive Blessing”. So I received ~45 health from Aurora by receiving her blessing for 45 days.
Even after you’ve received all the gifts, you can still receive blessings. You could always get strength and ignore the other demi-powers altogether. Another reason I like Castle Age: you have multiple ways to receive stats: level up, complete quests, achievements, and demi-powers.
I receive a different demi-blessing each day (that I remember to), whichever one is currently lowest points. Right now I’m in the 2500 range, so it’s going to be many days until I get to 4500 across the board.
I started playing not too long ago. Its a lot of fun.
My army is small (27) but I focused very heavily on defense and land acquisition when I started. So I have decent cash flow. Haven’t gotten too much into the monsters although I help when called upon.
Epic battle with 172 hours on the clock, and you have to fortify as well as attack. The loot looks all Earth Elemental specific. Can’t wait to snatch some. It all matches my Earth Orbs, of course.
The app’s not letting me CTA right now for some reason. Everytime they introduce new stuff their servers all get wonky. Keep an eye out for free glich-given energy refills and huge bank deposits.
I think it’s OK for people to post monster links in this thread. Instead of creating another Castle Age group of Facebook, this gives us a chance to help each other and maybe snag a few more Dopers peeking inside the thread.
This would be especially good for Dopers that are still low in level or don’t have many friends. Now that I have over 500 friends, I often miss people’s Call To Arms and I would like to help those still new. Posting links here would allow me to see them for sure.
