Castaway 2 - Armorgames

My new obsession.

I won’t link from here because I get a glitchy version on this computer, which may be the computer itself, but hey. Google is your friend.

Much more complex than the original, better graphics, better quests, crafting.

Over a hundred levels apparently. Lots more monsters (the little cyclops dragon is back as a baddie) with some great battle/magic combos to work with.

Teleporting between locations and upgrading your own armor and weaponry on the run. Quick slots that mean you can heal (or whatever) without opeing the inventory.

I’m barely a third of the way through and it’s taken me an interrupted week to get there. I found myself starting up the game after an evening out last night and playing till midnight without intending to (I’m middle aged ferchrissake, midnight on a worknight!!). If it hadn’t have been for the earlier beers gaining my attention, I could have been playing till dawn.

It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a game that much.

Anyone else playing? What are your thoughts?

This is the first I’ve heard of it, and I can’t wait to try it. i usually get my Flash game announcements from jayisgames. I’m hoping that character progression is less grindy than Castway 1. Could I impose on you for a starter spoiler – how do I get past the overgrowth on the second screen? I saw the sundial-like thing, I went there, pressed Space Bar to interact, but nothing happened. I get a little slow with Flash games at first, not sure where to go and how the interface works, that’s why I ask what is going to be (I’m sure) a simple question.

Thank you for wasting the next week.

goes to look at new Castaway

Tom Hanks went back to the island? Were the Harlem Globetrotters there?

It is a little better than the first Castaway, I like the crafting and better level progression. This will burn up a better part of my week as well.

Anyone find any good recipes, other than the ones given to you? I keep trying different combos and I can’t make anything.

I can’t find the town. Isn’t that Gate of Whatsis supposed to lead to the town after you open it up with the jar of blood?

Ok - Arkcon, there should be a stick that seems oddly familiar, check your equipment inventory in case you missed picking it up. You’ll need to equip it as usual and then whack the shrubbery - there may be rewards (herbs, materials etc) hidden in the bushes so it’s worth being thorough.

Enalzi, thislink has a lot of recipes, but beware, you often have a quest that requires crafting and if you’ve already used some of the ingredients it can slow you down while you search for some of the harder to find ingredients. They could have fixed this so that if something’s in your inventory, it counts towards completing the quest, but I wouldn’t count on it.

**Malleus, Incus, Stapes! ** Go through the first gate - the blood gained from Blue Meanie will open it. You won’t be able to open the second gate, Oceanus. Go left to the opposite side of the island and the portal there should take you to the village. I re-started the game twice before working it out! I thought it was just a glitch.

Okay, 'nother question. The stick that you combine with the sapphire to make a wand- where do you get that? Did it have to be the stick you started out with at the beginning of the game? Because I sold that as soon as I made it to town.

Yes, I don’t know any way of regaining it either, you may have to start over.

You can buy it back in the town.

Oh, that’s good.

And, uh, I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I kinda missed the instrcutions for making the Scholar’s Sword…

The link in post 8 can tell you how. Also, once you get the hang of it, that link’s map’s pretty nifty too, I’m using it in combo with the game map.

Is this one going to have an ending? I remember playing the game, clearing all the levels, being thanked by the islands leader, but the game didn’t end. I searched and searched for more and found no other challenges to take on. I got my character and pet all the way to level 25 before I just gave up.

Did I miss something?

Nope, the thanks was the end. The first time I played I clicked right through without even reading it.

It does seem to be a theme, none of the gemcrafts finish when you ‘win’ either.

Don’t know about this game, nowhere near the ‘end’.

My kid tells me that winning the game only means finishing the last level (quest etc) - *Clocking *the games mean achieving all the peripheral bits as well (amulets, gear etc). So the idea is common enough to have entered gamer language.

Okay, I’m sorry to keep asking for help, but I’m a bit lost.

The map is huge and I have trouble keeping track of where I’ve been and what gates I’ve opened. I’ve been to teleporting stops in the Western Shore, Oebe’s Forge, the Grasslands, and both sides of Pan’s Forest. I can’t figure out where I’m supposed to go next.

The latest quest I finished was No Baby Gila.

The link in post 8.

There’s a map on there, below the recipes. You’ll probably need to zoom in to read it clearly, but it shows the whole ‘world’ and how the maps link to one another. It also has where the talismans, boss monsters, villages, forges etc all are (doesn’t seem to show gates, but I can often spot those just by the straight edge cut through a ‘pass’.

The villages are marked with an ‘s’, so you can check against your in-game map and see if you’ve missed any. Some Sigils are the only ones with a specific quest, so you’ll need to keep an eye on that. Also, visiting the village activates the ‘feather’ statues and teleporting is the easiest way to get around quickly and complete quests, which get you things like ores with which to complete other quests.

Another thing about the Crafting guide map is that it numbers each map so you can follow the progression of quests in order.

The comments below the map are very useful, too. I’m going to win this in the next day or so (just reached the lava fields), but I can’t complete the quests (clock the game) because I made the blast shield before receiving the quest. Someone else did the same thing and they’ve just received the reply that they’ll have to start from the beginning to regain the knight’s memento.

The kid tells me that “my” figure on screen is called a sprite, I would have called it an avatar.

Proof that I’m old.

I… I think I give up. I’ve spent the last hour squinting at that map and going in circles trying to find some passage that I may have overlooked and I’ve got a big fat nothing. And a lot of dead mobs. And I found the Sorceror’s Sapphire and forged the Scholar’s sword, but that didn’t unlock anything.

Take a break, I usually can’t do more than a couple of hours at a time because the kid demands an equal share of the computer, this has been an advantage. It also allows me to have regular meals and keep up with the housework - less of an advantage.

You can zoom into the map (I have it so the recipes look about 32pt) with ctrl+mousewheel up.

Have you got Sister Pedro? (from the main village Left up left left left) I think that’s where you get the blood of Oceanus to open up the right hand side of the map.
