Castles, culture and damn good beer...PragueDope anyone?

sticks nose in the air

Buses? Maastricht, my dear, buses are for paupers.

As far as the Amsterdam carpool goes, looks like Globe-trotter will be in on it for one leg of the trip (not sure yet which one). Including my wife and me, that leaves one seat. I mean yeah, it does seat 5, but including luggage it would be a tight fit, and 4 in total would be preferable. So, either Tusculan or Maastricht gets the fourth seat.

::frantically thinks of bribes::

Raw herring? Edam cheese? Haagse hopjes? A crate of Heineken? Tulips?

Oh wait…

Tusculan, you sound a bit hesitant. If you know your schedule, we could always change plans. Untill then, C&H, yes, count me in. Where do I sign up?

Yes, I’m still not sure whether I could find the time. This fall may be rather busy for me. So just go ahead and pick a date. I’ll check around that time how things are hangin’.

Yo, Maastricht? As long as Tusculan isn’t making up his mind… cough[sub][sup]Dalwhinnie[/sup][/sub]coughcough

Again there are snags in my life, and my pocket. It looks like the oney that would go into coming to Prague is now going into fixing my car.

Next year is now sounding pretty good right about now. Oh well, have fun for me.

Scotch? Are you sure? I hear good things about the Becherovka, too.

Scotch!

It’s called whisky, woman. Whiskey if it’s Irish.

All kidding aside, no worries - just your share in the diesel consumption will be fine. Hell, we could even pick you up. Maastricht’s a bit of a detour, but a 50 km detour beats two 2.5 hour train rides on your behalf, I’d say.

Aww! That’s a great offer, you good people.
Still, it turns out I won’t be needing the ride, after all.

I’ve talked to my boyfriend, Jack, and he would like to come along. (Jack’s not a Doper, but he’d fit right in). That means Jack and I can take his car. That we ARE coming is certain now, just not how we’ll drive, starting in Maastricht.

**Tomcat, ** ideally, what would be your planning regarding the Oct 21-ish Praguefest?

Too much to do; we can plan the agenda later. Just get here and I’ll make it worth your while. I’ve been hosting friends and biz people for years, so you don’t have to worry. I’ll give this thread another week or so, then will organize the pension for those interested, or help those who want something bigger/better/more expensive.

OK, first one:

October 22-24, 2004

I can rent a few rooms at the pension and y’all can work it out later. I’ll rent one starting on the 21st. If anyone wants a nicer spot in the center, let me know.

We can do Prague-walk-a-thon on Friday to a few spots as people come into town. Dinner at a Czech pub, dancing for those who want afterwards. Saturday we can do a more lengthy and organized tour of the Castle, the Library, Monastary, etc. Lunch at Czech Pub or the best little Chinese restaurant in town (run by a buddhist monk, lighter Chinese fare and yummie). Down into town and over Charles Bridge for carousing and a few more sights, maybe do a boat ride on the river. Dinner at a Czech Pub or at a Thai, Pakistani, Greek or Italian place (all are great). Dancing or pub crawling, or heck, lets go bowling! Sunday I can take people to some cool spots, do pictures, etc.

Sound good?

This sounds cool, I’ll check my schedule for that weekend and see what I can arrange. It would be nice to see Coldfire again and meet the rest of you.

I’m bumping this thread to let more people know.

Tomcat, the schedule you propose sounds cool! Jack and I will arrive in Prague Thursday afternoon Oct 21, so count us in fo the Friday Prague walk-a-thon.

I’ll reserve a room in the pension you linked to this week. It would be nice to have all Dopers in the same pension!

Cool! You mean the chapel at Kutna Hora, right? I’ve heard of it and have wanted to see it ever since.

Ooh, an Euro-Dope, and in Prague at that - I love the city! Unfortunately, my work schedule is rather busy at the moment and rather spontaneously busy at that, but I’d really like to come in October. I guess I’ll just monitor this thread and then join in if I can find the time. (Buses run from here to Prague every night - I’ll just squeeze in with all the other paupers  )

Count me in.
I’ve heard great things about Prague. Now I can see it with Dopers!
What more could a person want?

Howdy howdy-

Reservations are made at the Pension for 3 double rooms for Oct. 22 - 24 for 55 EUR a night. This includes breakfast and daily cleaning. If you want a private single it is 45 EUR a night.

He might have more available, but lets get these filled (first to email me, first served). So who wants 'em? Email me, including your choice of alone or willing to shack up with a semi-stranger-of-the-same-sex-from-this-board.

Tomcat, could you e-mail me which B&B you had in mind? The site displays several, and Jack and me want to be in the right one with the rest of the Dopers. I’d like a double room for two nights longer though, arriving 21 and leaving the 26’th. From what I remember, Prague takes definitely more then 3 days, and even in five you’re just scratching the surface. If the B&B has any rooms left, I’ll make the reservation myself, otherwise we have to work something out.

I’ll have to do some planning WRT work and such, but I’ll book this weekend for the Prague trip. Don’t know how many days just yet, so don’t book anything on my account. Will get back to you later. Looking forward to it!

Dammit! I live in Budapest for five years, and now that I move back to the US, a Dope Fest is in the neighborhood. I’ve been meaning to get back to Budapest, and October sounds as good a time as any (at least the throngs of tourists will have died down in Prague by then.) Hmm… I’ll check plane prices and will keep it in mind.

I might consider coming in october. But I probably won’t know before september at best. Keep me informed, though.
