Castles, culture and damn good beer...PragueDope anyone?

Oohh… Never been to Prague and it is an ideal excuse - and time - for a long weekend. And I live in Luton, so getting a flight won’t be an issue.

Well, I’ve made my reservations at pension Josephina! That leaves either one, or two rooms left. Who’s next?

I hear the local hockey team, the Nosticators, is having a hot year.

Random bi-weekly {bump} to see if anyone else wants to reserve a room.

:::deep sigh:::

Just popping in to say I’m horribly jealous of ALL of you…Europe anywhere between Zurich and Kiev is still a complete mystery to me, and I’d kill to go to Prague (well, not literally, but you know what I mean), but unfortunately it ain’t gonna happen right now.

Alright, looks like it’ll be affordable for me, so as long as my employer lets me, I’m in.

I’m a cash-strapped student, though, so if there’s a way to carpool, I’d love to. Looks like all the seats are full in the Coldfire car, though. Anybody else? I’ll be in Leuven, in central Belgium. I could travel some distance to intercept sommebody’s route to Prague, if need be.

And I guess my best bet would be to go for one of those double rooms in the pension Tomcat’s got lined up.

Another bump for this thread, on the auspicious occasion of my actually getting round to booking the flight!!
€160 with Czech airlines - can’t be bad!

Kewl!

Need a room at the pension?

Dunno yet.
I’ll have to speak to my other half and see if he’s booked a hotel yet.
Let me speak to him and if we do, I’ll send you a mail, Tomcat, thanks.

Well, I don’t know about Tusculan’s plans, but I won’t have to take up Coldfire and Heloise on their friendly offer, so you might want to e-mail them.

The score so far:

The “yesses”
Tomcat (Host)
Coldfire and Heloise (quite probably)
Maastricht and Jack
curly chick

The "maybe’s
Angua
Quasimodem
nocturnal_tick
Globe-trotter
Priceguy
wolfstu
clairobscur
qts
pulykamell

I’m still a maybe. Will need to talk to the other half, and see what he says.

I’m in, I’m the other half CurlyChick spoke of. Flights are booked, we just need to choose the hotel.

All right, time to get this show on the road!!

The wonderful Heloise joined the ranks of the EuroTrash two weeks ago, so we’re all set for a nice long weekend to Praha!

Trouble is, I’m going to need some advise. Heloise is still suffering from the aftermath of a pretty serious car crash, and can’t walk too far. This means that we might not do the whole program, so to speak, but just parts of it. Also, a hotel somewhere really central would help. But, it needs to have good parking facilities as well. I hear cars with Western European plates can be quite attractive in the Czech Republic, although I’m pretty sure even the poorest Czech would laugh at my Citroën.

Any tips for me, Tomcat? I’m looking for a two person room (one bed, preferably, we’re legally married now ;)), arriving Friday the 22nd of October and leaving Monday the 25th.

wolfstu, I think we can work something out in terms of transportation, of my travel dates are all right with you. Globetrotter will be joining us on the way home, but even then it’s just 4 people, so we’re cool. My proposal would be to pick you up at Maastricht Central Station, or perhaps Liège? Let me consult a map and get back to you on that. I don’t want to make too big a detour, but I also don’t want you to take the train to somewhere halfway between Leuven and Prague.

Anyways, woohoo!! Really looking forward to this.

All right, it IS a bit of a detour, if ViaMichelin.com is any indication. wolfstu, what are your train options from Leuven? My ideal route takes me across the Dutch-German border around Arnhem, which is why I said Maastricht or Liège is a detour. We could compromise, and perhaps you could take a train to Den Bosch (also called 's Hertogenbosch). From there, we could cross the German border around Venlo, and still be pretty much on track. The Leuven to Den Bosch train ride might be a bit of a challenge, though… why don’t you just post which Dutch cities in the South East of the Netherlands are easiest to reach for you? If need be, Maastricht is always an option.

Count me as still undecided - we have a major project at work which may be happenning that weekend. Or it may get delayed again.

El Bumpo!

Maybe not everyone’s subscribed to this thread, so let’s move it up a notch or two.

Hi Coldfire, I’m looking forward to seeing you again. curly chick and I are staying at the Central Hotel which seems to be pretty central. We arrive at different times on Thursday and we’re coming back on Monday.

[sub]Sneaky bump![/sub]

Looking forward to raise a few pints with you again as well, Kent!

Central Hotel looks nice, but seems to lack a car park. I was looking at air fare, but truth be told, a diesel car can’t be beaten pricewise if you split the gas by two or three. Plus, I like road trips. I just don’t know how much of Prague’s bad rep for stolen cars (especially Western European ones) is true!

So, Tomcat, wake up already and help us out, OK?

Hmmm… Looks like we’re out. Sorry.

With regard to Heloise, is she seeing an osteopath? They do work wonders.
