Okay so this isn’t breaking news, nor is it earth shattering but a fellow Coloradoan is being shackled by the City/County of Denver for housing a “Bengal” cat.
Essentially, a Bengal cat is a domesticated cat that has Asian leapord lineage. They are domesticated but the City of Denver doesn’t think so. They are recognized worldwide as domesticated cats with the proper generational sequence. Do a search on Google and you will find out a lot about these wonderful creatures.
Heck we had a Bengal cat in one of our pet stores here in C Springs at the Chapel Hills Pet City that was one of the most beautiful and active cats I have seen. If I had an extra $600 rolling around in my account, I would have picked him up. He was so beautiful and so lively and never harmed his “cell mates” but was a kick to watch. I watched him a couple of times for a long time and I fell in love…but couldn’t afford the bail.
So why am I going to the boards to ask your help ? Because, this could come to the attention of the Pikes Peak Humane Society and the City Counsel or County Commissioners into thinking that this is a bad breed where I live.
While I don’t agree with captive hybrid wolves (as a wolf lover,) I have done some research on the past with regards to Bengal cats and they seem no different than my dearly passed on cat, Sam. He was bigger than the average cat, he had some wild tendencies (had some kind of wildcat in him I assure you) and he never harmed a soul but the occassional house mouse.
So anyhow, here’s some information for you:

I don’t think the Denver Animal Control should take this cat away from his owner.
Please write an email to various Denver governmental entities and help this man keep his beloved pet. This is an outrage.
If I find any human children in the same boat, I will post it here but this came to my attention and wanted to let all animal lovers know that a man needs your help to keep his beloved pet or he will have to move. This seems so wrong on so many levels.
I remember a Southern Colorado man that had cancer that refused treatment because of his dog needed a home and someone came to his rescue? Well Southern CO came to the aid of this man. Imagine if one of your pets were taken away for no real reason.

Feel free to pass this on to your friends if you think this is worthy of attention. I can’t stand the thought of a loving animal being evicted because of laws that are outdated, etc…Animals, to many people, are no different than children, I know the feeling.
